Ahhhhh… Thomas Lauderdale & China Forbes doing the song that introduced me to my favorite album of the past 15 years, “Sympathique.” A hearty recommendation for all KTCC readers, for what it’s worth (not much!).

im6,
It was you who introduced me to Pink Martini. That was the first album I bought!!!

Alas, I don’t believe subsequent PM albums have matched the brilliance of this, their debut. It may be that I was so impressed with “Sympathique” that nothing could live up to it, but that’s my opinion. Of course, they still do very interesting, often challenging, music, but this is the best and a great place for novices to start. Glad you enjoyed my recommendation, Kat.

im6,
I find your recommendations to be excellent, and that one was superb. I do love that album!!

Strange.
Due to im6′ hearty recommendation I listened to the audio samples of “Sympathique”:

The album title song is familiar and I like her voice, but it won’t be a favorite album.

Birgit,
You know far more music than I don’t find it unexpected you’d have different favorites.

Thanks for posting the link, Birgit. (I know you & MDH are surprised Brian Wilson had nothing to do with this!) I can respect that it might not be your cup of tea. It’s not even the type of music I normally listen to and I wish I knew why I like it so. The variety of styles? The variety of influences? Who knows? I guess it just hit some sort of nerve with me.
