Lead vocalist Mike Smith came across a song called “Glad All Over” by Carl Perkins and wrote a new song with the same title. Smith recalls, “We had lost out on ‘Do You Love Me’ to Brian Poole and so Dave (Clark) thought we should do an original. He asked me to come up with something and I looked through my record collection for a suitable title.” Smith came across a song called ‘Glad All Over’ by Carl Perkins and wrote a new song with the same title.
Dave Clark says: “I knew that we needed a song with the thumps in. we had been playing dance halls and we were getting a great audience response to the stomping things we were doing.”
Dave is probably the shrewdest musician of the 1960’s.he bought all the rights to the DC5 songs and kept them for many years, un re-released and last year sold the licence to Itunes for quite a significant figure

      sblake,
I am a Carl Perkins fan so I’ll look up his song out of curiosity knowing it is different. It is amazing that Dave Clark was astute enough to buy and keep the rights. Sadly, many musicians never did and didn’t profit from their music.
