Is it just me or does every single song by The Ink Spots sound exactly the same? The same beat and instrumental accompaniment, spoken verse, same “ooooh” backing vocals. I’m not disparaging today’s musical selection, but I find it odd how this group remained so popular for so long, releasing what was essentially the same song over and over and over for years. I suppose the same charge could be made against other artists as well, but they seem to be the champs as far as I’m concerned. Maybe one of those offenders is this group (singing a song that fits today’s theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCfeMR3zTiY

      im6,
You are exactly right-they do sound the same which is why they stayed around so long. Their sound is comforting in some odd way. It isn’t loud or annoying; it’s just The Ink Spots.

What I really like about this one is at the end of his talking he has that funny little reprimand. It just makes me laugh.

I went and found the Gary Lewis song and added it to my files! They too have a characteristic sound I knew as soon as the first notes started.

As good as that version is, I’ll always have a soft spot for this one by two cast members from a 1970s sitcom about the British Army in Burma in WWII. It was a massive hit over here, somehow.

PS Sandy Denny does a nifty version too

      Chris,
What a wonderful voice the little guy, Don Estelle, has and I haven’t ever seen a better scene stealer than Windsor Davies.

I went and downloaded the Sandy Dennis version. I didn’t expect her talking on it-that surprised me. It is close to The Ink Spots’ version.

This song got two comments which surprised me. I thought it was just one of those Saturday songs I like to play that few people seem to notice.

        Hey, now, Kat!
Just because we don’t comment, it DOESN’T mean we don’t notice the songs. There are many songs I really enjoy…I just don’t have much to say about them.

I’ve never heard this song before, and of course liked it. I really loved the Sandy Dennis version.

      Lori,
After I saw that Sandy had made a version, I went and downloaded it. I do love listening to her-thanks for the youtube!

    Rick,
I figured some songs just don’t attract an audience. You are right about them not needing a comment!
