There was a motel in Wichita Kansas near the airport that looked exactly like the one in the photo. I decided to stay there in 1980 because I thought that these oddities would be gone in a couple of years and I wanted to experience staying in an iconic building. I was very surprised at the size of my room. The tepees are much larger than they look from the road. The room was comfortable and very nice. Too bad they are probably all gone.

‘Wigwam’ was a local Boston term meaning ‘hot hair’.

    Cheers

      Minicapt,
I rather think it was British term adopted by the likes of John Adams!

There is nothing British about the word. Except they brought it back to England from America.

        wigwam
ORIGIN early 17th cent.: from Abnaki, ‘their house,’ from an Algonquian base meaning ‘dwell,’ shared with wickiup

    Bob,
I was actually being a bit tongue in cheek as Minicapt had used it literally.

I knew it was from an Indian word though I didn’t know it was Algonquin so I thank you for filling the gap..
