A Hundred Pounds of Clay: Gene McDaniels

Singer and songwriter Gene McDaniels passed away Friday at his home in Maine at the age of 76. McDaniels had his greatest recording success when he hit number three in the spring of 1961 with A Hundred Pounds of Clay and number five later that year with Tower of Strength.

    He hated his hit records because he was such a Jazz fanatic.
    There was one of them that he could tolerate because it used a jazz progression. Can’t remember which one. Then he became a preacher & had his own church.

      It seems every time I read the paper another singer or songwriter has died. You’re right, though, each leaves a legacy.
