Rowen,
I have always liked that gravelly voice of his and was so sorry he died, especially so young. He was nominated twice for a Grammy but the folk Grammy doesn’t get much press. I might have gotten to know his as he was from New Hampshire.
Kat,
All we ever talked about was our exes. Our conversations were in the entertainment venue he was performing in (Cactus Cafe in Austin at UT), either before or in between his sets. That’s about as far as I got with him.
I’ve often wondered at those fans who have conversations with the performers whose works they are attracted to. It is hard (even for a ham radio op like me) to start up any kind of conversation with depth with someone I only know through their art.
Talking just about the art is likely to be boring or “off-putting” for the performer, as they are on the road…that is likely ALL they get to talk about with people on the road in such venues. I have pity upon them and hold my tongue. I gush not. π
Rick,
I agree that talking about their art is off-putting for many but I suspect that many love talking hearing how people appreciate, in this case, the music. Having no background with the person, that’s about all we’d have in common.

Awesome. I wonder how many of us will find this guy as I did only after heβs gone.
