“Computers are like Old Testament gods; lots of rules and no mercy.”
The morning has been so wonderfully cool that I slept in far later than usual. Somehow I feel as if I’ve overslept. When I worked and I was late getting up, I could be dressed and out of the house in minutes, coffee and paperless but on my way. Today I lazily got out of bed, brewed my pot of coffee and read both papers. It’s later than usual, and I do have to be at an appointment at 12:45 so I hope my muse is raring to go.
My computer goes shopping or out for coffee or somewhere. I can’t seem to get it to do a couple of tasks at a time. It gets busy and does no task. I sit here frustrated and impatiently waiting so I can get started. Today was like that. While I was waiting, I got to wondering where my computer would go. The Apple store is out as it is a Steve, who is the guy who put it together for me. Maybe I shouldn’t have named my computer. That could be the problem as we all know about Hal. I finally decided after much thought it might window shop at Best Buy or Staples looking for accessories like a new scanner now that the old scanner has gone to hardware heaven. Finally, after I closed Firefox, Steve decided to stop wandering and allowed me access. My iPad too had a glitch. Last night it wouldn’t connect to the internet. I checked all the settings, and they seemed just fine. I tried my Mac later, and it didn’t connect. All the lights on my linksys seem to be working so I am in a quandary. When I have more time, I’ll try and figure out the problem. Right now, I feel as if I have lost a friend.
I can do a lot of different things. I even have some talents, but computer problems make me feel like a country girl visiting the big city for the first time who’s lost on the subway and being crushed by the crowd.

It has been a rather nice day over here even if it wasn´t especially warm. All weather forecast sites promised rain here so I didn´t continue with painting my cottage but instead continued to do wood chips and spread them around my pond. I think we got four drops of rain in total 🙂 🙂 🙂
Ah computers 🙂 I use Safari on my computer even if it isn´t a Mac and I have had problems getting out on the internet these last days. If I have managed to do so it only lasted a couple of minutes at a time. Very annoying, but now it works just great again.
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
It was a beautifully cool day here but cloudy so the roads were filled with people. I had to go to Hyannis and got caught in the traffic. I took a side road back then the highway. Lots of people with cabin fever on a cloudy day.
Not having my computer is like losing a bit of my mind-it fills in so many gaps for me.

That’s one way of putting it. They are great until they don’t work which is a huge problems if you rely on your pooter for work, which I know you don’t. I do so have a back up in the guest room in case this one goes out. Of course it the carrier is shorted which is what your situation sounds like, you are at the mercy of the internet Gods. Almost always, with thunder in T storms, we shut down. I read the forecast daily.

Z&Me,
Yesterday the internet and the phone died. The TV cable was fine which surprised me as they are all connected. I reset the modem and the world of computers returned. I wondered if that had an impact on my router.
I too shut off my computer though I have a really great surge protector-better not to take a chance.

The computer engineers where I work and I have given up on Linksys routers. They tend to fail after a short lifespan. They usually fail right after the warrantee period has expired. All electronic gear will fail sometime.
Every router I have ever used occasionally needs to be restarted. First turn off your router, usually by removing the power cord and then turn off your modem. The modem may also not have an on/off switch and may need to have the power cord disconnected. Let them stay off for at least a couple of minutes. Then turn on the the modem and when the lights stop blinking and turn green, turn on your router. Then when those lights stop blinking try to go to the internet. If that doesn’t work, buy a new router. I have had great luck with Netgear. New routers of N speed are less than $75.
I left Dallas this morning with the low temperature for the day at 85 degrees. I am here in Toronto where it’s about 80 at 4:30 PM. Day 26 of 100+ temperature in Dallas.

Bob,
I went on line and did some hunting, and that was suggested, but it didn’t work. Next I went back to Google and found a solution which had me in the skeleton of the router and all its numbers. I had to do something on the administrative tab which brought up a repair for the router. Whatever that program did, it worked, and all my offshoots are happily back on line!

Hi Kat,
I remembered that quote without having to look up who said it. So right.
I don’t know where my computer would go. The last one had to go to the mountain and contemplate its navel for a few days before it would deign to speak to any new peripherals. The Macbook seems to be happy to communicate with anything. “Oh! You’re a new printer? Cool! Got a job for me? Great!” I’m not complaining.
I am enjoying the lovely cool weather. Yesterday evening Rocky and I sat out in the rain for a while because it felt so good. We got soaked this afternoon but no problem. We won’t melt. 🙂
It was a strange traffic day because there were a lot of campers and such heading north on Rt 93. It’s Tuesday. Who starts a vacation on Tuesday?

Hi Caryn,
Lots of traffic today. I had great plans: first my cardiologist appointment then on to Barnes and Noble and finally Pier 1. I went home right after my appointment. It was cloudy so the roads were filled with cars sitting bumper to bumper.
We haven’t had rain though I thought we might. There was a 2 1/2 hour Sox delay last night but none of it made it down here. Today was cool. Tomorrow is supposed to be the best day of the week.
Tuesday is, without question, an odd day to start a vacation so maybe they were really Gypsies moving their camp.
