“We are born charming, fresh and spontaneous and must be civilized before we are fit to participate in society.”
Maybe the string of lovely days needs no further mention here because every day is lovely. This morning, when I was on the deck, my back was to the sun so I could watch the birds, but I had to switch chairs. My back got too hot. Gracie, smarter than I, stayed in the shade under the trees and fell asleep, but she followed me when I came inside. She’s now asleep on the couch. The nights too are wonderful, cool and perfect for sleeping. From now on, I’ll mention weather aberrations, like rain.
I don’t remember minding the heat when I was a kid. I also didn’t mind getting sweaty or dirty. My standards for cleanliness were minimal. My mother’s were a bit higher, and I always had to wash my hands before I ate lunch. Something about my grabbing a sandwich with filthy hands was too much for my mother’s sensibilities. I didn’t really care. The faster I ate, the faster I could be back outside.
My friends and I used to do rides, and we’d take turns packing lunch and choosing the surprise destination. Some rides meant hitting the highway for a while. One ride was an all day trip to Vermont. Another was to Brewster, the next town over. The only rule for the ride was it had to be completed in a single day. I always made mint brownies for my dessert. They were a hit.
We were far more spontaneous, spur of the moment back then. I remember the doorbell ringing around 2 am, and I opened the door to find my friends standing on the step. His first tomatoes were ripe, and I was invited for BLT’s. I got dressed and joined them. We had BLT’s and mimosas until the sun rose.
Now I have all the time in the world, but I don’t tend to do the impromptu. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s time to pull out that mint brownie recipe and make a few calls.

Cool and windy today but at least no rain. My dogs loves it 🙂
I don´t know why it was so much easier to be spontaneous when we were children. I´m not even close to that now days 🙂 But those days I was at home and didn´t have anything to do we went away fishing down at the harbor or, when I was around 13 I started to go to our own little summer house by myself. But those days I stayed at least for the weekend.
I loved lying there at night listening to all sounds the creatures of the night made. Sometimes however it did sound like a human passing by and the I got so scared that I held my breath 🙂 It was most probably a moose passing by 🙂 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
Your package went out today and it will arrive between 5-10 days according to the post office.
We used to think about the day or even the our. We never gave the future much thought which allowed us to be more spontaneous.
Last night was so noisy with all the night birds and peepers. I too fell asleep to the sounds but a bit more gently than you.

Vermont? That’s like almost all the way to New York!
Cheers

Minicapt,
From here on the Cape it seemed like the ends of the Earth.

how exciting your life has been! i know that you still crave it, going back to Ghana proves it! We had storms here yesterday, i had taken the littles to the pool at Coney Island here in Cincy and the storm hit pretty quick, came home to 2 large branches that had fallen in my back yard, i must get that oak tree trimmed, but right now God is doing a great job, he has missed the house every time! FYI Southwest airlines is having a big sale , I have been thinking about this all day , even if i don’t go, it’s a chance to dream! http://travel.southwest.com/specialoffers/offerDetails.html?id=69306126

splendid,
I checked out the special, thanks, but couldn’t find one which struck my fancy. I am going to visit friends in North Carolina in October, but the flight I wanted wasn’t part of the sale (of course!)
I’m glad the branches didn’t do any damage. My mother had a branch hit her roof one time, and it caused damage. I’ve had any branches close to the house lopped, but only the big oak had any potential of causing problems.
I can barely wait until August and my trip. As if that isn’t enough, I’ve been checking out trips for the spring. My rule (except for Ghana) is I can’t go anywhere I’ve been.

Well my puter crashed and I bought a new one with Windows 7 so my learning this new technology may take awhile. I did manage to post a few photos on Cat today. I lost over 1300 cat pictures and a hundred photos for use next month. I probably won’t have time to surf the net and retreive them on the new computer.
Good post today. or yesterday!

Z&Me,
When my computer crashed the first time I lost all my music and the blog pictures I’d accumulated. I wanted to stick my head in the oven, but it’s electric. Well, at least I learned from that and now have an external hard drive which backs up my files every night.
I know what a stomach wrenching lost files give you.

I am getting over something just about as gut wrenching…I upgraded my 2004 computer from XP Home to Windows 7 Home Premium! Moved my hard drive to D:\ and put in a new half Gb C:\ drive for the switch. Leaves all my old stuff backed up, but before I can do much to use it all, I have to find new versions of programs that I already had and was happy with. In a couple of months, I expect to be settled in.
I plugged the old drive back in as C:\ this afternoon to export some things to use in the new versions. I decided to read myself all the programs from the list in Control Panel that lets you add/remove programs. It took me 25 MINUTES to read the list into a voice recorder! To say that I had a lot of programs loaded is some sort of amazing understatement.
