This was an excerpt from the musical suite “Ballet for a Girl from Buchannon” on the group’s second album. The band at first objected to the editing considered necessary to prepare it for AM radio play, but it went on to reach the Top-10 in spring 1970.
The “girl” was Pankow’s girlfriend who was leaving for school in Buckhannon, West Virginia. Somehow, it got typed up as Buchannon (minus the K)and it became Ballet for a Girl in Buchannon. Terry Kath introduces it as Ballet for a Girl in Buck-hannon on the Carnegie Hall CD

sblake,
I just though it a Chicago song and knew nothing about its background. I’m finding out that knowing the background gives the songs new meanings. Thanks again!
