“Sweet spring, full of sweet days and roses, A box where sweets compacted lie.”

The morning is beautiful, sunny and warmish. I woke up to the sound of the lawnmower next door. It reminded me of every Saturday morning all summer. The lawn now is lush and green, the way it is only in the early spring before the heat of the summer sun finds it. As I write, it is being mowed and trimmed. Gracie is an interested spectator.

Last night from the bleachers I watched the Red Sox get thumped by the Twins. I ate a Fenway frank and shared some popcorn. It was fun being back at the ball park under the lights, but I would have preferred to see them win or even stay close. They have one more game to impress me as I have tickets in August.

I had Rice Krispies for breakfast this morning. I should have been sitting on the rug in front of the TV watching Saturday morning cartoons instead of reading the papers while I ate. They still snap, crackle and pop.

I can see the leaves on the oak trees. They are finally catching up with the other trees in the yard. In the front garden, many of the perennials have appeared. They make me want to buy my flowers and my herbs. That’s always a favorite shopping spree. I walk along the rows of flowers dragging my little red wagon behind me as I fill it. This is a red and pink year. I have plenty of white flowers. My friend, the garden maven, gave a list of plants to add to my garden this year. She has well over a hundred varieties in her various gardens so her advice is welcomed.

Later, I’ll venture to the deck and sit in the sun. The few errands I have can wait until the day is cooler in the late afternoon. I just can’t imagine wasting a warm day with blue skies and a gentle breeze.

You are so lucky to live near Fenway Park. The only thing better than a Fenway frank is a Nathan’s frank on the boardwalk in Coney Island. I guess I am prejudiced by being a native of Brooklyn.

The only two old ballparks left are Fenway and Wriggly. I had the great pleasure to attend a Saturday afternoon game in 1994 before they put seats on top of the green monster. We sat in field boxes on the first base side just past the entrance to the field from under the stands. As a kid I had the pleasure of watching ballgames in Ebbets Field, The Polo Grounds and the old Yankee Stadium before they renovated it in 1975. All of the new ballparks are built in the neo-old ballpark style and have absolutely no charm but lot’s of skyboxes. To me watching a game at the Ballpark in Arlington, home of the Rangers, compared to Fenway is like love making compared to masturbation. It’s still baseball but without the passion.

I hope that I will have an opportunity to see a game in the friendly confines of Wriggly before they decide to tear the place down. If I ever return to the Boston area I intended to take in another game at Fenway if it hasn’t been replaced by a newer version.

      Bob,
I loved that hot dog last night. There I was sitting in the bleachers eating a Fenway frank-a perfect way to dine and spend the evening.

The present owners made a lot of changes to Fenway but they didn’t change the park. They made it better. Next year Fenway will be 100 years old.

      I love your analogy!

I can’t imagine they would tear down Wrigley ever just as they wouldn’t dare tear down Fenway. The people in front of me were from Minnesota. They got the biggest kick out of the scoreboard, all changed and updated by hand.

When the Ballpark in Arlington first opened in 1994 they had a manually operated scoreboard on the left field wall. The big one on top of the right field stands is electronic. Unfortunately, they have switched the manual one to electronic. The only thing I wish we had in Arlington is a retractable roof instead of trying to look like Ebbets field 1994. In Texas it’s hard to watch a night baseball game when the temperature is 95 degrees and the humidity is 90% in the seventh inning.

We reached 69F here today and we had absolutely no wind at all. I chipped more wood for the area around my pond , so now I have smaller and bigger wounds all over my body, I also have a bump on my head and a sour ancle 🙂 🙂 🙂

The joy of going to the gardencentre is almost gone here because of the spanish slug. It eats everything and they have no natural enemies here so they come in thousands and thousands.

We who don´t have it yet are really afraid that we will get it if we buy something and those that already has it doesn´t want any more 🙂

Now I´ll have a cup of coffee for a change, I feel a bit tired after chipping all that wood.

    Have a great day now!
    Christer.

      Christer,
That is really warm. I think it’s warmer than we’ve been yet.

By the sounds of them, the last things I’d want around are Spanish slugs. Is there anything which will kill them?

By the sounds of it, you seem to have a touch of my misery: getting wounds when I work.

There´s nothing really effective when it comes to kill them, if one doesn´t want to kill a lot of other animals too 🙂 🙂 🙂

So most people that have them put out traps filled with beer. The slugs loves it and drowns in it while they drink 🙂 Others take nightly excursions and cuts them with scissors. Salt is effective of course but it´s a nasty way of killing them. Just imagine how it would feel pouring acid over Yourself.

I always wound myself when working 🙂 🙂

Did the cereal have a prize? I’ve been nesting at home, going out only for a swim, and walking the cat in the garden which looks quite lovely now. I’m still sleepy so I’ll wave and listen to a tune or two and of course inhale some coffee.

      Lori,
Rice Krispies once and a while had prizes when I was a kid but not as a general rule.

I went out once today for ice coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts. I was in the mood for coffee and a donut.

I hope you enjoyed the coffee! Waving!!

    Bob,
In the spring, Fenway at night is freezing and not much better during the day. When the summer gets hot, the bleacher section is touch for sitting. The sun is right at you. I do love summer night games.

    At least they die happy!
