Please Mr. Postman: The Marvelettes
We lost two singers this week, one of whom was in my all time favorite Motown girl group. I figured both of them need to be remembered.
Gladys Horton, a founding member of the pioneering Motown girl group The Marvelettes who sang lead on their 1961 classic “Please Mr. Postman,” died January 26th in Sherman Oaks, California from complications related a stroke. She was 66.

Somewhere in all my records collected, there remains one of those “as heard on the radio” multi-track records with this cut on it. You could then get them from KOMA in Oklahoma City for a nominal sum. It was cheaper than getting all the original 45’s and it was a 33 1/3 RPM record. I didn’t have to put that plastic insert to play it on my record player.
I did detect a final drumbeat in the MP3 file that sounds like someone either captured this from a record (which caught the first part of a beat of the next cut) or some similar accident.

Rick,
I really don’t know where I got this. There were actually two copies in my files and this was the better sound.
