“The best of healers is good cheer.”
Can I hear a hallelujah?
Yup, here I am again, and this time I am on my computer, sitting upright and wearing clean clothes. I still can’t get upstairs to the shower until I am cleared by the therapist, but in the downstairs bathroom I just took what we used to call (hope I’m not offending here) a whore’s shower. The actual description I’ll leave to your imaginations. I was able to get off the couch and into the bathroom in under 10 minutes. That is a new record, and I got a 10 from every judge except for the one from the Soviet Union (the reference doesn’t work for Russia). This is a great day and the best so far. I am sitting here with the silliest grin on my face.
During this whole time, two guys have been working on my house replacing the shingles on all three sides (some of you call them shakes). The guys have been hammering, sawing, yelling and making more noise than even I was making every time I moved. I taught one poor guy how to make coffee so he could bring me a cup and then I yelled for a second cup. He couldn’t have been nicer. Between their working, my screaming and the animals running this has been a crazy couple of weeks.
I’m going to try and write as often as I can so thanks for hanging in there and thanks for all the good wishes. I suspect they were the turning point!

Hi Kat,
Know what you mean by whore’s shower. I have one bathroom in the house and I’m redoing it. Sink got chucked and tub went out to be refinished. I had to shower in the pantry sink for two weeks! Fortunately, no one else lives here except the dog. Being clean is great but having a proper tub is wonderful.
Congratulations on your continued progress.

Hi Caryn,
Thanks on the progress but it always seems to be followed by several steps backward.
Today was another whore’s shower but I made it only to the bathroom. I think I performed a miracle when I washed my hair.
This whole can;t walk thing is getting tiresome.

You will love a hot shower when the time comes. I stayed in it for an hour and we do the double showers down here so I was able to massage and sit and let the swiss rainfall unit cover me in hot water. That I won’t forget. Well good going so far. You are back to Coffee which is a good sign and we welcome you back with open arms. Just keep a steady going and maybe when the workers leave, things will return to a “normal” but not really the same till the pain is gone. Are you taking any pain killers? Codeine or Morphine?

Z&Me,
My entire body will be wrinkled when I finally emerge from my first shower. The bathroom sink just doesn’t make it.
I’m on two pain killers: one has morphine and the other IO have never heard of. It’s a new one I got from my surgeon. It targets nerve which gives me hope. Today was another good day.
I actually slept through one full day of the banging.

I just can´t remember what we call a shower like that over here. It´s better then not wash at all anyway 🙂 🙂
I have no idea what those to guys were changing on Your house. Google suggested a disease or shaking as a translation 🙂 🙂 🙂
I´m glad that You´re getting better!
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer,
The shingles are what cover the sides of the house. On the cape they are the most common covering for all the houses. Go to:

In the fifth picture you’ll see a cape shingled house. Mine is shingled on three sides. The front is painted.

Very few houses has anything like that over here, but I have seen it once. It looks nice!

1. “Spit bath”.
2. Shakes are split from cedar. Shingles are everything else; also a pain in the midrif.
Cheers

Minicapt,
Spit bath sounds far too refined. We still call them shingles around here regardless of the definition. I forgot about the other shingles.

splendid,
Hugs all around.Gracie and the cats are never too far away. Sharing a couch with Gracie makes sleeping a bit difficult but at least she keeps me warm.

Shake shingles for a roof:

But I don’t see them making any coffee

Aha! I have that in the old part of my cottage beneath the tiles. I guess I´ll have to change those next time I´ll have to do something with my roof.
Strangely enough it looks like they worked good without coffee???
Thanks John!

Kat ..I had a mini-Kat experience, falling down the stairs with a suitcase as we were getting ready to leave for the old country. I managed to bounce my back off a couple of stairs and have enjoyed some discomfort.
I send you salutations from London and a speedy recovery . We have enjoyed an almost Dickensian day driving through the snow covered surrey countryside to Gravetye Manor and an inappropriately large Sunday lunch. Tomorrow it’s my Uncle Pauly which will be special

My Dear Hedley,
I envy you your trip, the old country one.
I have up and down days. The nerves just didn’t enjoy being toyed with is what I’m told. I wish they’d get over it!
Eboy your visit!!!

Good to hear that you are coming back. Been missing my Sunday inspirationals!
Never have gotten back to NE, but I will. I seem to have been delayed by this adventure to the Philippines. I don’t seem to recall how much time and effort it takes to raise three boys (10, 12,15) or it might just be that I am getting a bit on.
Glad to hear that you are through the pain now and determined to carry on. Seems like quite a while and I’m really glad you are back.

Carl,
I always figure seeing another piece of the world is a wonderful gift. New England will be here waiting!
The pain remains but I fight through it. On good days I ignore the nurse and hit the computer. I suffer later, but I’m okay with that.

Kat,
Hope the recovery will begin a nice acceleration at this time!

Thanks, Mark
The scream and scare the birds pain is gone but the rest remain. I’m getting damn tired of it. My house still looks like a bomb hit it as all of the stuff is off the walls and Thanksgiving is in full ceremony. I want to throw the walker in the river.
