“I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
Sorry about the timing. I know late doesn’t quite cover it, but actually, I woke up early, used my walker to get to the kitchen to make coffee then the pain hit, and I altered my plans. I came back to the den, took a pain pill and went back to sleep. Gracie and Fern joined me. Two hours later I woke up and performed, for my own benefit, the opening dance sequence from West Side Story, finger clicks and all. Right now I’m working on I Feel Pretty (in my sweatshirt and slippers).
I do feel better each day, but postings will be a bit erratic depending upon how long it takes my body to adjust to being upright each morning. I miss my sisters dearly. They made me laugh a lot and we reminisced about growing up together. We also played a few games. They decided they liked me best in a pill induced fog when it came to word games.
My hard drive died the week before I had surgery, but I replaced right away. Luckily I lost only my bookmarks and address book. All my music and pictures are safe on an external back-up drive but have to be reloaded over the next few days so I have a task to keep myself busy. Yesterday my laptop stopped recharging its battery. I don’t know what’s wrong, but it can sit for a while.
My mother was always the best remedy when I was sick. She’d bring me pudding or ice cream or whatever she thought would make me feel better. I’d lie in bed and color or read, and she’d check on me, tuck in my covers and kiss my forehead to check for fever. She made me feel special. Having my two sisters here was almost like having two mothers; however, they did forget to check my forehead for fever. I guess I’ll just have to overlook it.

Sorry to hear about your hard drive. They are the weakest part of any computer.
The best thing about being sick as a kid was eating my grand mother’s home made chicken soup in bed with saltine crackers. I had a friend who was a physician and he told me that home made chicken soup contained all of the things your body needs to fight off viruses. I don’t think it will help your back, but it couldn’t hurt.

Bob,
At least when it died I didn’t lose my music That would have been fall on my sword day.
I love chicken soup, and it was one of the few things she made well. It gave me comfort, the bet thing when you’re sick.

Who cares if You are a bit late, as long as You show You are still here amongst us 🙂 🙂
Last time I performed the opening sequence from west side story I started my journey towards my first hip implant 🙂 🙂 I made a split on the floor that night and I did wonder if I would have to change my name to something more feminine 🙂 🙂 🙂
I do remember getting ice cream when having a sour throat, but I have no memory of kisses on my forehead 🙂 🙂
Have a great day and take care!
Christer.

Thanks, Christer, it’s good to be here!
Even at my most lithe I could never do the split. The kiss was my mother’s thermometer.

I couldn´t do a split either to be honest. I slipped on a rug one late night/early morning 🙂 🙂 🙂

Kate, hope you are sitting in the sofa watching your Patriots rough up Manning. Having read today’s thoughts my memories turned to the dark room when I had chicken pox as a boy..quite dramatic really and I am still not really sure what would have happened if I had opened the curtains..my Mother made sure that didn’t happen
I am on the countdown to a trip home..it’s been a while and goodies from amazon uk are piling up at my sisters house

My Dear Hedley,
That was exactly where I sat while I watched the Pats.
My mother also kept the blinds closed. She said we could go blind with too much sun.

West Side Story? WOW. My Mom drove us to New York to see it on Broadway. I was thrilled. I didn’t stop talking about that play all year. Glad it’s helping to move the old bod around. Exercise is what you need to keep the circulation going. Pain pills are great Kat but they also have side effects. Try to wean yourself off them in a week or so. I’m so happy you’re posting again. Just keep the coffee coming!

Z&Me,
I’m up and about all day from den to bathroom to kitchen to living room. It is only in the morning when the pain is so intense. I am down to a pill then and when I go to bed.
I’ll try and post every day but the postings will be later as the mornings are tough.

Sorry to hear that you are still down. And glad to hear that you definitely aren’t out. My wishes for a speedy recovery. And thanks for working through your stuff to post yet another interesting blog. I only get a chance to visit on Sundays and not every Sunday at that. But I still do enjoy your page, the music entertains and the blogs bring me back to good ole New England. And the photos… just great!
Now that you have some time between doses of pain killers, and I hope that the intervals are increasing, you might like to visit a museum or 50. Online ones of course. One of the sites I visit had this listing posted and I thought I’d pass it along.
Enjoy.

Carl,
That is a great site. I am a lover of museums. When I was little, my parents would take us on Sunday excursions to different museums in and around Boston. I still stand in awe at the room in the MFA with the sacrophagui. From the Peabody Museum I have memories of an outrigger hanging from the ceiling and monkey heads in formaldehyde lined up on shelves.
I always thank my parents for this wonderful gift.

Hi Kat,
I was a Shark. 🙂
Glad to hear that you are dancing around even if it it somewhat drug assisted. Keep it up.
November 22, 2010 at 10:53 pm
Hi Caryn,
Except for the drugs, I figure I wouldn’t be dancing. But I do feel better for a longer time each day.

Tea and toast.
It cured every illness we had, given time.

Toasted Marmite Fingers
November 22, 2010 at 10:12 pm
My Dear Hedley,
I had to look up Marmite Fingers. I’m not so sure I’d like it.
November 22, 2010 at 10:11 pm
John,
I swear that was a universal remedy. Even now I associate tea with being sick.
November 23, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Kate
Marmite is a “little bit” of an acquired taste – but really rather nice spread on toast slices. I am not sure if it is any healthier than bread and dripping which was also a big time hit in the early days.
