Thank you for this. It brings back a funny memory. Our chorus teacher was “innovative” and added this song to our spring concert. This was in 1974 I think. But we could not sing it as it was… it got changed to “when I look back on all the STUFF I learned in high school.” 😉

Sara,
It was my pleasure! Stuff sort of takes the edge off this song, but I do understand. One of my jobs was to read plays to make sure they were inoffensive and could be performed in school.

My Dear Hedley,
I have a feeling this song made a lot of people buy Nikon cameras.

But it still wasn’t enough to save Kodachrome, now a part of photography’s past.

Even in the digital age, I never tire of this song. There is something so happy in reminiscing about our first very own camera.

Nan,
You are so right. I remember framing the pictures though I had no idea that’s what I was doing. Several of my earliest pictures lopped off heads.

Wolf,
Even now the F-word is inappropriate for a high school play. Another play I read had references to incest between a brother and sister and that had to go.
The school committee policy was strict as to language. The usual hell or damn was okay was Carlin’s 7 words will never been acceptable and will always be offensive on a high school stage.

my comment was in jest, indicating only that in my less than humble and often acerbic opinion, *everything* offends someone somewhere

Sorry, Wolf
I hated to do that which is probably why I snapped.
We had one act play competitions between the classes, and I directed the same class a few years in a row. They chose a Woody Allen play which we knew would go over the time limit. The kids didn’t care so on we went. The dilemma was the word clap as in a STD. We ended up clapping in place of it and got away with it.

Marchbanks,
I sometimes took really bad pictures, and after paying to have them developed, I felt a bit cheated. I wished there was a way to pay only for the good ones. Digital does that.
