Sonny’s Dream: Hamish Imlach
This song was written by Newfoundlander Ron Hynes. Hamlish heard it and later recorded it as the title song on his 1994 album. That is Mary Black singing with him.

Thanks, this is great. Mary’s version with Emmylou Harris and Dolores Keane is, if anything, even better. If you haven’t heard it let me know and I’ll put that right.

There was a documentary made about the song. The Irish love the song so much and most think it is an Irish song. In the doc they take Ron to Ireland and introduce him as the man who wrote it. Most don’t believe it and when they are convinced, treat him like a king. It is a fun documentary.

Cuidado,
I can understand why the Irish would lay claim-it’s a great song. I can only imagine the pints raised in Ron’s honor.
