Speaking of small venues (see the Gordon Bok/Turning toward the Morning thread), in the mid 1980s I saw/heard Tom Paxton at a small nightclub in north Chicago. There were maybe five of us patrons in the whole place (it could have been a Wednesday or Thursday night). Turns out it was a club where Tom tried out and practiced new material, so it was like being at a recording session: he kept editing himself, joking, and starting over. For that, it was better than a concert. I still have the autographed LPs I bought from him that night.

      Fred,
I would love to have been there. Tom Paxton has long been one of my favorites, and it would have been so cool to watch him prepping new material then finding the final songs on his albums.

I would hold those LP’s close!
