Donna the Buffalo is the host band for this weekend’s Grassroots Festival (July 22-25), in Trumansburg, NY (a small Finger Lakes village, probably under 1,800 residents, near Ithaca). Some 10,000 “guests” are expected this year.
As for the band’s name, the story most often told is that the group was brainstorming ideas (and otherwise having a really good time), and someone slurred/muttered “how ’bout Dawn of the Buffalo?,” but the other partygoers heard “Donna the Buffalo” and it stuck.

Thanks, Fred
I had visions of someone’s pet buffalo named Donna, but I love this story so much better.
Maybe they should mosey on down to the cape!

I’ll be one of those 10,000 guests this coming weekend. As for Donna The Buffalo, they’re a very entertaining band. Thanks Fred.
