“When ambition ends, happiness begins.”
The weather is the same. The deck has a breeze, but it’s still hot. I want to drink icy cold liquids and stand in front of the air conditioner. Winter is never when you want it.
Movie night was great. We saw part 1 of Gene Autry in The Phantom Empire, and it really was a cliffhanger. Our heroes were plunging off the side of a cliff after the rope to which they clung had split in half. I hope they’ll survive. The main feature was Casablanca. I hadn’t seen it in a while, and I loved watching it again. It’s on of my favorite movies.
Today is a retro Sunday, like the leisurely Sundays I remember as a kid. We sometimes went to the beach all day and other times we did absolutely nothing. The big family dinner was never a summer event so we were free in the afternoon, not expected at the table. When I was really young, I just hung around. Nothing was open on a Sunday, and I used to moan because there was nothing to do. When I got older, my friends and I would take off for the day. Usually we had no destination in mind. It was the driving around which was the attraction. Funny, but I still do that only I’m not checking out the boys in the next car or the ones hanging around Carroll’s, the local hamburger joint. I’m just riding for the fun of the ride.
I took my time reading the papers this morning, watched the crow for a while, the one that comes every day, then sat on the deck looking around and doing nothing. Later I’m going to sit in front of the fan while watching the Red Sox. I have no ambition at all, and I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

Big Rick and I loaded the bikes on the back of his old van and, as is our way every Sunday, headed for Stoney Creek Metropark. On a summer’s morning our arrival at 7.10 am was greeted by many who’s intentions started earlier than ours.
The air was cool, the lake calm, the pavement ran fast, and many of our new friend-companions greeted the two old guys heading their way. Any number of bunnies (perfect for Maggie) but no wild Turkey this morning.
And so goes a Sunday – life can be really good.

My Dear Hedley,
I love the sound of your Sunday morning, riding in the coolness along the lake. I love the early mornings this time of year especially.
Gracie would have joined Maggie in the hunt. She tries to get through the screen to get at the bunnies taunting her from my front yard.
Life can be really good indeed!

It´s been a cool, almost cold day here and I´ve enjoyed every minute of it. I´ve done some little things in my garden, that most probably will be shown in tomorrows blog and the flies didn´t bother me at all!!! In the forest however it was a totally different thing.
At the moment I´m eating cookies I´ve just made and drinking cold milk. The cookies were really nice when warm, but now they sort of grows in the mouth. Well I can´t be successful every time 🙂
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer,
I envy you that coolness as the hot, humid days continue here. I took a shower around 8 last night, and it was the coolest O was all day. I couldn’t wait to get into the air conditioned bedroom.
Cookie and milk is a snack created by the gods.

Great tunes this week. They bring me back to teenage summers. I took the dog down to the lakeside this morning. There was a beautiful cool breeze but the sun was very hot. We walked a crooked path trying to stay in the shade. We ended up in the old cemetery where I took some photos of one of my old teenage hang-outs. It’s a big crooked root of an old tree that grows on a rise on the lake shore. It’s perfect sitting for two or three on a hot summer night. As I poked around, I noticed that down below the tree, at the water’s edge, someone had put an old kitchen chair. Still the coolest place around, I guess.

Thanks, Caryn,
I fear there is no shade left in the world. We are the characters in a science fiction movie about the sun gone wrong. Even under the trees under the umbrella is hot.
I can see some old lady wearing her house dress under an apron sitting in the chair and cooling down from making Sunday dinner.

We still are big on Sunday family dinners, everyone brings something. Today is different because the kids made out of town plans, both son and daughter are heading in different directions. So I plan to throw a couple of T-bones on the grill for us later today. It’s kinda nice not having to cook for 11 people. Like having a day off. Pretty relaxing like you and the famous deck up there. Here it is sooo hot that you gotta stay indoors where it’s cool.

Z&Me,
I would have the whole family over if we lived near enough. We did all the holidays together when my mother was still with us, and she’d make dinner when I visited. My dad still loved a Sunday dinner, that meat and potatoes man.
My deck gets a breeze if one exists. Right now Jeff, the deckman, is back for a second day. By the end of the day tomorrow my deck will be 12 longer.
