Well, Well, Well: Bob Gipson and Bob Camp
When I played this song a while back, one of my Coffee friends suggested this version as one of the best. I couldn't find it, but luckily it was sent to me.
It is from a 1960 album called Troubadours of the Folk Era

You sure can hear where PP&M got their ideas….

Ralph,
It is sure great harmony, and I know exactly what you mean.

I’d say the PP&M version of this song is a direct lift.

Ralph,
No argument here.

The (Weslyan) Highwaymen also did a good version of this tune.

Michal,
I love The Highwaymen and play them often. I always consider them undererated.

This is a fine recording. It is also on the Newport Folk Festival from 1960 and on their live album at the Gate of Horn in 1961 (I think that’s where this one came from). They also did a reprise in 1986 (Gibson & Camp at the Gate of Horn Revisited) and that CD is available from Folk Era Records.
The duo was managed by Albert Grossman who also managed Bob Dylan and Peter Paul and Mary.
Bob Camp changed his name to Hamilton Camp in 1964. He died in 2005. Gibson died in 1996.

Mark,
I missed you!
It is from The Gate of Horn-I found that out when I did some research on the song.
At first, I only knew Bob (Hamilton) Camp as an actor. I was so surprised when I heard him sining.

tags’s right, title’s wrong.
Bob Camp later recorded and acted as Hamilton Camp.

J,
The title of this from the recording had him listed as Bob. I guess because it predated the name change.

G&C were one of my favorites back in the day. Thanks!
And the Gate of Horn? Saw Joan Baez there. And Lenny Bruce.
Gone are the days.

M.Simon,
It was my pleasure, but I do have to give thanks to a Coffee regular who was thoughtful enough to send it to me.
