“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.”

It’s an overcast morning, but that’s how mornings are here. Soon the sun will break through to bring us a hot Colorado summer day. Yesterday was in the mid-90’s. Later, in the deep afternoon, the clouds will make their return and the early evening will be a delight.

Everything is still green here. From the airport, I got my first view of the Rockies, still covered in snow at the higher altitudes. They never cease to amaze me. I remember my first view of the Rockies when I just sat silent struck totally by their beauty. That was when I totally understood the words, “For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain!” for the first time.

Last night was just catch up with each other night. We do talk on the phone every week, but nothing beats sitting around the patio table chatting and eating chili verde made by my brother-in-law. This morning he delivered coffee and his homemade cinnamon roll to me here at the computer. I might just have to bring him back with me.

We ‘ve planned an easy day today as we’re leaving early to get to Denver where we’re be having dinner before the game then we’ll descend on Coors Field in our Red Sox shirts. I can’t wait for the game.

Rod, my brother-in-law, and I are the only ones awake. The house is quiet except for the meows of a cat looking for a little affection and a lot of treats. We all spoil our pets.

On the photo´s I´ve seen on the Rocky Mountines I know they are breath taking. Our mountines here in southern Sweden isn´t that sharp edged like the rockys. In northern Sweden and in Norway it´s a different thing.

I hope the game is great!
    Have fun!
    Christer.

      Christer,
They are amazingly beautiful. Sitting at the ball park last night they formed a backdrop. It was beautiful!

So you made it out west without incident. Good for you. I like that the Brother in law is taking good care of you. That’s nice. I know you will enjoy the game tonight. I will check to see if we get it here on TV. My Nats were doing well beginning of this season and for a few short weeks. Now they’ve fallen flat. I don’t know about that team.

      Z&Me,
I madeit just fine. The flight wasn’t all that bad, and I read most of the way.

Sadly, my boys of summer lost. I hope they do better when I go tonight.

I would assume that you have decided to climb every mountain, (so make sure that you) search high and low, (and while you are at it) follow every by way, every path you know….

Ford the streams, find the edelweiss

We visited Norway last month and took the train from Oslo to Bergen, going through their mountains. Both Sandy and I commented on how nice they were, but that they could not come even close to comparing with the Rockies.
We hope to make it out there this fall on a 3 week+ road trip to San Diego. Maybe this time I’ll finally be able to ride the Durango-Silverton RR!

      John,
I was totally impressed with the Rockies until I saw the Andes. They blew me away completely though I still have a huge fondness for our mountains!

I took the autobus from Quito to Guayaquil, and it was th emost amazing ride.

I flew over the Andes in a C118 (propellers) back in my Army days and was totally awestruck at their beauty. I’d never seen mountains before and felt as though I was living in a Geography Book. They, and the plateaus, were just as Sister Marie Leo explained them to us in grade school. We went through mountain passes and followed the range from Lima to Santiago. An experience I’ll never forget.

I suppose now that 40+ years have passed they’re not quite as tall as they once were. I’d love to go back and check.

      John,
I bet they’ll still look as tall. I flew in a prop from Lima to Cusco. The shadow of the wings could be seen across the mountains, and I was amazed how close they looked to us. I swear they were almost touchable. Amazing!!
