Crispian St. Peters, a British pop singer of the ’60s best known for his buoyant hit Pied Piper and his soulful version of You Were on My Mind died on Tuesday at his home in Swanley, Kent, England. He was 71.

I was very sad to read that Crispian St Peters had faced significant health issues for the last 15 years. Another of those artists who’s brief window in the sixties helped colour many of my memories.

This was written by Sylvia Tyson of the Canadian folk duo Ian & Sylvia. They recorded it for their 1964 album Northern Journey.

I think I knew she’d written it but had forgotten. Their recording, then, was the earliest, and, like many of their songs, became a hit when someone else released it.
