“I am a being of Heaven and Earth, of thunder and lightning, of rain and wind, of the galaxies.”
The morning is cool with a bit of a breeze. With my coffee in hand, I stayed outside on the deck for the longest time. Few things are prettier than a late spring morning which carries the promise of a warmer day. I sat, closed my eyes and let the breeze wash over me.
Rain is predicted for late this afternoon and evening, maybe even a thunderstorm, my favorite of all storms. I love hearing the thunder announce a coming storm. First, from a distance, is the rumbling which sounds a bit like a hungry stomach, a big hungry stomach. As the storm nears, the thunder gets sharper and louder and rumblings give way to claps and peals. My house sometimes shakes when thunder cracks overhead. I’m never frightened. I’m usually awed.
Lightning is magnificent. I love when it brightens up even the darkest, stormy sky. My favorites are the real bolts which reach to earth like branches from an eerie, skinny tree. Lightning behind clouds always makes me think of aliens descending to Earth in hopes of conquest.
I’m going to take my shower shortly, outside. It is one of the best parts of a warm day. I can hear birds singing and squirrels, those spawns of Satan, jumping from branch to branch. I always think of my shower as a bit like camping, only better.
I have things I could do today, but none are all that important. They’ll keep for another day. I hold fast to the belief that the worst thing of all is to waste a perfectly beautiful day going from store to store and errand to errand.

Much the same weather over here, without the thunder. I do love a good thunderstorm but it is a bit annoying when the lightning goes through my telephone cord. It flies a yard, a yard and a half from the telephone jacket almost in to the wall on the other side. Always with a small bang!
I found an outdoor shower in a magazine the other day. But the water has to be heated by the sun primarely. But one could connect it to the hotwater too. One could also buy a shower curtaain, so I´m thinking of buying one.
Have a great day now!
Christer.

Christer,
We got the rain but not the thunder. It rained gently, even Gracie didn’t mind going outside.
My outdoor shower connects through the wall to the pipes, and I have regular hot water. The shower is wooden and has a bench on the other side of the wall from the shower. I love my outside shower.

We had a hot tub when we lived on the river. I always keep saying if we stay here I’d either get another one for our back porch to use year ’round or put in a pool but that would require me hitting the Lottery. Certainly one or the other before I retire.

Z&Me,
For me, I’d choose the hot tub. It would be great in the winter surrounded by snow.

Being of the amateur radio (and professional radio) persuasion for 50 years this year, I can say without a doubt that it makes me nervous for my equipment when lightning prances about, flinging spears and arrows indiscriminately. I have lightning arrestors and good grounds, but when a big bolt with hundreds of thousands of amperes decides to slam your poor house or antenna, there isn’t much you can really do about it. My protections just work for nearby or small strokes.
But nervous, nonetheless.

Rick,
I totally understand your fears. Sadly, one of the guys I knew in the Peace Corps died when electricity shot through his radio wire and jolted him so he fell and fatally hit his head.
