For Lovin’ Me: The Big Three

If you're an old time Celtics' fan you'd know the big three were Bird, McHale and Parrish. If you're a recent Celtics' fan, you'd think Pierce, Allen and Garnett. If you're a folk music music fan, you'd think Peter, Paul and Mary

You faked me on this one! I thought it was going to be the “real” Big Three: the one with Cass Elliot, Tim Rose, and Jim Hendricks. I have the vinyl, but except for one track on the Vanguard “Troubadours” issues, they don’t seem to be on CD or an e-form.

Thanks for the link – I hadn’t seen that before.

And if classic comedy is your “thing,” the Big Three are Groucho, Chico and Harpo!

P.S. I thought you got irked with something I said, and shut down your blog in retaliation. Then I saw the reference at Locust St, and said “Hooray!”

      Jeff,
It wasn’t you! Blogger unceremoniously gave me the boot so I moved here.

      I love the Marx Brothers!

Is this an elaborate to avoid attracting the attention of a certain N— P— S——?

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

Yes, it is, Chris. My guess is his bots will miss this one though I really didn’t have a problem posting the trio. It was a sole NPS which elicited the complaint.

Or is that P- N- G-? (as in persona non grata?) 😉

Too funny. I only think of Gordon Lightfoot.

      Cuidado,
It was Peter, Paul and Mary I heard sing this first. I do love the Lightfoot, but I think of PP&M.

It was Lightfoot’s version I heard first, amd ot’s still the best in my minds eye/ear.

Michal, I thought I was the only person who had a copy of the Big Three’s LP.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      John,
I didn’t find Lightfoot until later. PP&M were the first folk singers I ever heard and they led me to all the others. I have been a Lightfoot fan from my first hearing of his music.

I don’t think there can be too many of them around. I thought The Big Three were quite good for what they were- up there with the early Trio and The Journeymen. But other than “Rider” (and the Amazon link Katry found) I haven’t seen anything of them since that one lp. One of these days I’ll dig it out of the box it went into several moves ago (if I can find it) and figure out how to reduce it to mp3 format and share it with the world.

        Michal,
You got me curious about them and I listened to the 30 second offerings on Amazon and ended up ordering the CD. I’ll be glad to share.
