Cotton Fields: The Highwaymen

From their 1962 album Standing Room Only

This was the B-side to The Gypsy Rover, but it proved more popular with disc jockeys, and The Highwaymen got a number 13 single out of it. It is a Leadbelly song that even the late blues-folk singer's estate had not recognized or, until then, copyrighted.

    I assume you picked this in part because of the news I read this morning that Dave Fisher had died? I worked at Wesleyan University in the ’90s and was lucky enough to see the Highwaymen perform for their 35th reunion. It was great — and Dave had some great stories to share from his days in Greenwich Village.

      I always think The Highwaymen never got the attention they deserved.
