This is on several different albums. I took this version from The Soul of Nina Simone.

I just love her voice and way to sing!

Great song, great voice.
Have you ever heard the Dave Van Ronk cover of this song? It’s on the “Van Ronk” album from the early 70’s–best version I’ve ever heard. If you get a chance, give it a listen.

OMOT,
I thought I had it but didn’t find it when I checked my files so off I went hunting. I actually found it. (Thanks for the album title or it would have taken a while.)
I’ve listened a couple of times as it is so different than the versions I know. but you are so right. I love his interpretation and the background music is beautiful.

I’m not a fan of Claudine Longet, in any manner but she does this song, I think, better than anybody else.
If Madeline Kahn had recorded it, that might be the best version but it’s debatable and she never did.

reddog,
I’m sorry to say I am skeptical. The songs I have heard her sing just don’t seem to fit this particular one. I will look around and try to find it mostly out of curiosity.
It’s was that deep voice of Madeline’s.

I love the irony in the lyrics; and Nina singing of them is unsurpassable.
It’s actually a lovely sunny morning here, so these rainy day songs are thankfully a little off the mark for a change! If it stays fine, I’ll push my mother-in-law up to the botanical gardens, to see the flower beds. She’s: 95; used to fight blackshirts on the streets of London; and still tells the latest jokes before I do.

Jim,
I am such a Nina fan no matter what she sings!
It is a sunny but cool morning. The sky is amazing and perfectly clear of clouds. It was yesterday’s rain which prompted my theme. We have recovered nicely.
I hope your day with your mother-in-law is wonderful. She sounds like a hoot.
