Cape Cod Girls: The Revels
This is from a 1994 album called Blow, Ye Winds, In The Morning. I had to play this song a couple of times so I could sing along.

Hi Kat – I recognized this song right away from a Dan Zanes album that I have. ( Sea Music) I have always liked it. Have you heard it? Herb

Hi Herb,
I hadn’t heard it until today when I was hunting down the different versions of this song,

Actually, recorded in Boston and released as a Revels LP in 1984…

But ya made it! And it’s such a good party….
Do you know the other ‘Revels’ work–the seasonal celebration albums? They’re both fun and a document of their times (in Boston & the the Northeast)..many libraries have them in their collections.
(I don’t know if you’re from the Northeast.. but a regular participant was the host of WGBH’s long-running “Morning Pro Musica”, the inestimable Robt J Lurtzema.)

I did!
I don’t know their other stuff but I love to find new music.
I live on Cape Cod!

Fun trivia – I think I’m actually in the chorus on this album, having been in the Revels as a kid. Dovetails nicely with my entry for this week over at Cover Lay Down, in fact, so thanks for that…

I remember this song from my youth. When my grandfather would rent a ‘cabin’ at the cape (usually the Wish Bone), he and my uncle (the crazy one) would get out their stringed instruments (a harpsichord and a mandolin) and entertain us all with song and dance routines. This was one of my favorites. After which the family card game would commence. Adults only of course as they would play rook, my grandfather’s favorite, just before Oh Heck!
A wonderful time with lots of memories.

Carl,
We sang without the music, usually in the kitchen around the table but a lot of them were Irish songs.
I can’t even remember how many games of Oh Hell (we avoided the heck as too tame) we played.
