This is the description of this song from the liner notes, "This song came from Miss Ella Shiflett, who lived on a mountain in Greene County, Virginia. It has also been found in Michigan, Arkansas, and Kentucky, in which places it is known by various other names including The Courting Cage, and The Wooing."
