It was Tom Rush I first heard sing this Joni song on The Circle Game, the very first of his albums I ever bought.

Folk singer Tom Rush had met Mitchell in Toronto and was impressed with her songwriting ability. He took “Urge For Going” to popular folk act Judy Collins but she was not interested in the song at the time, so Rush recorded it himself. Country singer George Hamilton IV heard Rush performing it and recorded a hit country version.

sblake,
Joni is so young in this video and she has that magnificent voice I first remember.
Thanks for finding this.

I thought Urge for Going was just an age thing

My Dear Hedley,
I think sometimes it is far more than an urge.

Hi Kat
S Blake- Thanks for the video!
Poking around for info, it appears that this is from Oscar Brand’s CBC “Let’s Sing Out” program from the mid-60’s. Brand is to her left. Jimmy Driftwood (Battle of New Orleans, Tennessee Stud)is to her right. Her old friend from art school in Calgary is playing bass, Harry Chapin.

J,
After knowing who was with Joni, I had to give the video another look. I would never have recognized them-thanks!
