“I already have a bad name for the Easter Rabbit.”

The war with the squirrels has taken a new turn. I am feeding them, but there is, of course, a catch. The feeder has three arms like the sails of a windmill, and the corn is attached to the end of each arm. The squirrels become the Flying Sciuridaes (which is the family squirrel. I looked it up). I watched a squirrel spinning this morning. I couldn’t stop laughing at the beastie’s antics. He was, of course, as all squirrels are, quite persistent. He finally decided to eat upside down.

The day is cloudy again. They keep promising sun, but that hasn’t happened yet. At least it’s dry. My yard is strewn with limbs which have fallen this winter. Scrub pine branches are delicate things.

My sister is planning an Easter egg hunt for her grandson. She’ll be hiding colorful plastic eggs filled with small toys and candy in her backyard. It reminds me of one special Easter egg hunt when I was kid. It was for the whole neighborhood and was in the field behind our houses, the same field where we hunted grasshoppers and fireflies all summer. The old tree with the fallen limb was the furthest we needed to hunt. We all grabbed our pails or baskets and ran as fast as we could. We figured fleet of foot was the deciding advantage. Each find was announced by a kid holding up an egg and yelling, “I got one.” That spurred the rest of us. I filled my basket. One of the eggs I’d found was gold, and it turned out to be the grand egg, the prize egg. I don’t remember what I won. I just remember that special egg.

I remember one other hunt. It was inside the house. In those days we hunted hard boiled eggs we’d colored on Saturday. My parents would hide the eggs early in the morning and we’d hunt right after breakfast. One year my parents must have lost count. It took a while to find the source of the smell.

I´ve never been on an egg hunt. I don´t think we do that at all over here. We just get our candy stuffed eggs made of papier maché and later on kids still go out dressed as wiches and nowdays wizards (and we can all than Harry Potter for that 🙂 ) begging for candy in their neighbourhood. To be honest I´m not quite sure how common that is nowdays, but we did it when I was young. Later on in the evening hughe bonfires will be lit (if one lives on the west coast that is, all othesr doesn´t do that) to scare away all wiches on their way to Blåkulla and their big party with the devil 🙂 🙂
    Happy Easter!
    Christer.

    Christer,
That is so different. It almost sounds like Halloween when kids wear costumes and trick or treat from door to door. I have a few of those paper maché eggs and use them for decoration.

    I love the bonfires!

No one has taken me up on an Easter Egg hunt over here yet. We hide them in the woods. So if I don’t hear by tomorrow, send those squirrels down Kat. We’ll put those Windmills to work here in Paradise. It’s wonderful weather now and I plan to spend the weekend at home.

    Z&Me,
I’m so glad you got to post. I’d surely miss you!! I’ll be glad to send them down to you-all of them!! Honestly, it was just too funny watching that squirrel spinning around.

We are due for 60+° on Easter Sunday-I can’t wait!!

It´s not today we have bonfires and that´s lucky since it´s almost storm here now 🙂 Bonfires are at easter eve! I do have a cold so i blame my wrong thinking of that 🙂 🙂
    Christer.

    Christer,
I blame me-I understood about the bonfires but didn’t write it correctly.

    Sorry about the cold.

I have a nesting pair of redtail hawks in the back swamp. Each time I see them I think “Eat more squirrels”.

    Hi Kat & Coffee Family,

First, I would like say I’m sorry I haven’t been saying hello – I’ve been here almost everyday, a bit in a rush. When Christer mentioned months ago, about the puzzles on Nat’l Geographic, I was off and spent many, many hours and days happy with puzzles. Thank You to Christer and to Kat, who mentioned, she also liked doing puzzles.

And then came MySpace and Facebook (sigh)but here I am and going to try do better with what came before all this excitement(?)

And now to the point – I loved seeing the Putumayo songs. Quite sometime ago, while shopping at Whole Foods, I was browsing the Putumayo section. A man was sort of checking out the display etc. and we started talking… me, rambling about how much I liked the diversity, etc. and learned that he was one of the owners!

Sometimes, we need to remember the Kevin Bacon degrees of connection validity!

And that concludes, my hello, my glad Kat & Coffee are rolling along etc. my story of the music etc.etc.

    Linda,
I love puzzles and drop by and do a couple at a time. I always get a new one as a Christmas present.

Time does seem to go too fast. I read the papers, do Coffee and before I know it the clock says nearly noon.

I have several Putumayo albums and love them. They get played all the time.

I’m glad you made the time to say hi!

I FOUND YOU!! I have been so worried that Coffee was gone forever and worse, that something had happened to YOU!
I am SO happy that you are still here- and the whole gang, too. How is it that I seem to be the last to the party? How did every one else seem to know about this and where to find you but me? I have had to do some hefty sleuthing and was just about to send off an email to you when I literally stumbled on the wordpress address on google- I felt like Dorothy returning from Oz- Oh There’s Kat- and Christer… oh and Zoey and Me…. and all our friends-I’m home! I’m really home Toto! There’s no place like HOME!
    big hugs to everyone!!

      Gretchen,
Welcome home!! I had a few e-mails and sent off notice that way and then Christer and Zoey & Me posted information about the change, but then I was lost as to how to reach the rest of the family. I am thrilled that you and a few others just seem to be stumbling in after hunting all over. I’m sorry about people not knowing but Blogger pulled the plug quickly. Here one second, gone the next! It was for music infringement.

The archives are gone, but I have all of them. All along I have been backing Coffee and nothing was lost. Maybe now I’ll have to put together The Best of…

Thank you, thank you for clicking your red shoes!!

Glad to find this! I’ve been in a panic because the old address suddenly stopped working and missed the daily missing the musings and music. It’s made me realize what a big part of my day reading “Coffee” has become.

    All the best!

Thanks so much for hunting me down. I wish I had a better way to communicate the new address, but it seems people are finding me anyway. Spread the word!!

I am so thrilled to know how important Coffee has been. That makes me glad I’m back up and running!!

  15. caryn's avatar caryn Says:

    Hi Greg,
Definitely a delicacy. We have grey squirrels and black squirrels. They’re the same species, just different colors. The black squirrels usually fall to the predators first because they are very visible. I think we’re down to one black one now and I haven’t seen it around for a few days. With all the rain it could be hiding out on the Ark.

OH I FINALLY FOUND YOU.. when I clicked on your lick.. .gone?! I couldn’t believe it, so I even emailed Ralph but he’s busy moving.
Just now I found you on Nan’s blogroll.
Don’t know what happened, but will have to read the archives from this week. Glad you are still writing!!

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Mim,
Coffee was deleted from Blogger because of music infringement. I was sick for a day or two but decided I couldn’t give it up so I found a new home. Thank you for being so persistence!!!

  17. katry's avatar katry Says:

    Greg,
I have never seen an albino squirrel. Ours are just commonly gray or red. They would seen easy to see for hawks in all but the winter.

I let a couple of days go by then worried you might be sick or (gasp!) in a car accident and were calling to the nurses, “I hate to get to a computer and post.” I can’t imagine a day without your words. You’ve got some loyal followers. I’m just happy it was so easy to find you. You really need an Outside Person who will vow to let us know if something happens to you and your words.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Jane,
I laughed at your typo and knew right away what you meant. My sisters used to say that if we don’t talk on the phone they know I am alive day to day when they read Coffee.

At one point I did give one sister written directions as how to post on Blogger should something happen. I’ll have to do the same thing for Word Press. I made her promise she’s let people know what was going on with me.

  19. Jane Els's avatar Jane Els Says:

change that to “I have to get to a computer..” Typos always happen on the exactly wrong word and then change the meaning of the whole sentence. I had a friend get married a while back and someone posted that she had married her “sourmate.” We need a word for typos that come disquised as real words.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Ha, Jane-I love the sourmate.

Maybe we need to change the word malapropism to fit typo as it is is really close to what we’re talking about. Mrs. Malaprop is one of my favorite all time characters.
