I’ve always liked this one–even though my wife thinks Iris DeMent’s voice is fingernails on a chalk board. I can appreciate her, especially when Emmylou Harris backs her up. Wasn’t aware that they’ve recorded together.
In the “you can’t go home again” genre, here’s Emmylou with Mark Knopfler in “Red Dirt Girl.”

I think it took me a little while to appreciate Iris Dement. She does have a singular sound. I think there is like and not like, no in-between. I like.
This is such a heartbreaking song, but I’m glad you sent it. Thanks!
