The rain started last night, but it was a light rain I barely heard. Before bed, the dogs went out anyway. They don’t mind getting wet. My kitchen floor, washed yesterday, has a trail of dog paw prints from the door down the hall. I’ll wash it later as the prediction is for clouds, not rain. It will be in the high 50’s today. Even the ugliest days are getting warmer.
Nala’s ear looks so much better. The lump is gone, and most of the redness inside her ear is also gone, but she is still not 100%. She didn’t eat her biscuit this morning. Henry ate both of them. I gave her some cheese hoping to hide her morning pills in it, but she didn’t eat the cheese so I had to put the pills down her throat. A bit later, she did manage to eat some of my English muffin on which I had slathered extra butter to entice her. She always expects the best.
When I cook eggs, usually for supper instead of breakfast, I mostly fry them sunny side though I do scramble them every now and then for a change. I always have two pieces of toast, one piece per egg for sopping purposes.
When I was in Ghana, I used to buy my eggs in the market. The man from whom I bought them always made sure I got good eggs so I would be back. My mornings eggs were fried in groundnut oil. They were the tastiest eggs. The rest of my meal was two pieces of toast with margarine on top and coffee. Later in the morning, after teaching my first class, I’d have another cup of coffee.
When I visit Ghana, breakfast is usually included wherever I stay. At one hotel in Tamale, they served porridge and fruit then two eggs and toast. At every place, the eggs have cooked yolks. The bread is often sugar bread. For the coffee, they bring hot water in a cup, small packages of ground instant coffee, one per cup, sugar cubes and canned milk.
When I visited my parents, my father sometimes cooked me Sunday breakfast. It was my universal breakfast of fried eggs, toast and coffee.
Every morning now I have two cups of coffee. Sometimes I have toast or a bagel or biscotti, all of which I share with the dogs. I dunk the last of the biscotti for them. They both like a bit of coffee.

I don’t react that much any longer since Nova always have had ear infections. I just bring out the drops I have (and the vet just write out a new preskription when I need more) and continue to drop those drops in the ear for 10 days. I was however very worried the first times that happened. One vet said that her ear(s) is built to get infections. It’s easier now days since she only have one ear 🙂
I’ve started to always have some blue cheese at home, that’s the only thing Nova eats if she knows there will be a pill in something she’ll eat 🙂 The smellier cheese the better 🙂

Hi Christer,
The infection was mostly on her ear, not inside. There was a huge lump which was spread over the ear. The inside of the ear was quite red. They drained the ear flap and then put her on pills and ear drops. Her ear flap is almost back to normal size.
I couldn’t even have blue cheese around the house. I hate the taste and the smell. She’ll eat almost any cheese.
She scratched it with her paw today and let out a yelp so it still hurts. Tat trip to the emergency vet’s was over $#00.00. They charge $240 when you walk through the door.

So far to emergency vets here that one might just as well wait for the next day if it isn’t life threatening. I’m so used to all kinds of infections and injuries that I don’t go anywhere unless their life are at danger 🙂 🙂 🙂

Her ear was so swollen she had begun walking with her head tilted and constantly shaking it. I decided she was really uncomfortable. She was also not eating her favorites. This is the first time any of my dogs have had an infection.

Hi Kat,
Sounds like Nala had an abscess on her ear flap. Those are very painful. My tom cats used to get them all the time on various parts of themselves. Puncture wounds from fighting other cats.
I know what you mean about the expense of the emergency vet. The great thing about my emergency vet hospital is that my two dogs LOOOOVE to go there. They love everyone in the waiting room. They love the vets and technicians they’ve seen there. Even Piki who loathes being handled by the vet. But it’s a referral hospital so they can’t go there for regular things.
Breakfast, for me, is usually cereal with added grapes, blueberries, and walnuts topped with yogurt, plus an English muffin. The dogs get to lick the spoon and the bowl and they get a piece of English muffin crust with melted butter still hanging on to it. I was not feeling well the other day and didn’t each much. They kept looking at me all confused wondering where their snacks were.

Hi Caryn,
I was shocked when I ran my hand up her ear. The flap was huge, swollen and with a lump. She didn’t mind me touching it. When I looked inside the ear, I was shocked kid at how red it was. so I decided not to wait.
I brought Maggie there but none of my other dogs. Nala didn’t seem to mind at all. She had new people to meet and got plenty of pats. She didn’t even mind being touched and even taken out back without me.
When she got back, she was all wiggles and wags. I got pills and ear drops for her. She needs to be seen by her regular vet next week.
You do have a great breakfast. I think I am too lazy to do more than make a pot of coffee or have a banana which I have to share with the two dogs. Te two of them watch me drink my coffee knowing they’ll get some when I’m done. Henry is the worst.
