“I woke to the sound of rain.”

When I looked out the door this morning, the old nursery rhyme came to mind. I can remember my mother saying it to me:

It’s raining, it’s pouring,
    The old man’s snoring.
He got into bed
    And bumped his head
And couldn’t get up in the morning.

The rain started last night and continues this morning. It is supposed to rain all day into the night. I don’t mind. My to-do list is tiny. I’m actually going to finish the laundry, only two loads left. This is a monumental achievement.

Both dogs have been in and out. Nala is soaked. Henry is wet. He isn’t out as long. Speaking of Henry, we have breakthroughs. He actually went on the other side of the couch. It sounds weird I know, but Henry had chosen his side of the room and never strayed beyond. He even walks on the other side of the room now. Yesterday he came in the dog door. May wonders never cease!

Yesterday I had hot dogs for dinner, in the usual top loading rolls. I added cheese, mustard and red pepper relish. Much later, I made cinnamon toast as a snack. I felt five again.

When I was a kid, I never minded the rain. I’d get soaked walking to and from school. I remember taking off my shoes and finding my socks were so wet they made footprints on the floor. It was sort of fun until my mother made me take them off. Sometimes we’d play in the cellar on rainy days. I remember every part of that cellar. On one side was the black oil tank. The window on that side of the cellar was at the top of the foundation and was square and tiny. I could see dust in the ray of sunlight coming through the window. The rest of that side of the cellar was open. On the back wall was my father’s rack, the one he built. It had two shelves, one on the floor and the other close to the ceiling. They were attached to two side pieces of wood one of which always hung at a tilt. On the bottom were cans of paint. Nothing was on the top. We couldn’t reach it. My father always said he didn’t have the right tools. We knew better.

    I always laugh when I read about that rack 🙂 🙂 🙂

Nala is definitely good for Henry, I hope he can teach her not to steal anything she sees 🙂 Alma has really been good for Albin but his influence on her is mostly to make strange and loud noises when they see something interesting 🙂 🙂 or anything moving really 🙂

Grey and dull here, sometimes rain as well and it will continue like that for at least ten days.

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
My father were so defensive when we made fun of him. He blamed the tools and the wood. What’s funny is my brother became a carpenter. He always said he fought against heredity every day.

I’m afraid Nala will teach Henry to steal. She stole rolls yesterday and ran outside. I threw my shoes in her direction, and she dropped the rolls. She tore apart a small box today. She even stole a paperback book. Nothing is sacred.

He has come in the dog door more times in the last two days than he has in a year. Nala has always come in the dog door.

      Enjoy your day!

Maybe this will post; maybe it won’t. Maybe this will cause a ruckus; maybe it won’t. But I think it’s worth a try because this is the first song I thought of when I saw your list of music for today. Hope NPS doesn’t mind and will let it slide. I haven’t heard it in years, yet there it was right at the top of my head and still as good today as it was when I first heard it nearly 60 years ago.

This album also contains the song that describes my little league baseball career, “Right Field”. 🙂

        Bob,
When I coached softball, I’m sorry to say the worst outfielder went to right field.

      im6,
I have this album and love this song, even sang along. I have no idea why this would cause a ruckus.

      It’s a great post!

      Thanks!!!

Didn’t your pal NPS get upset in the past when you shared PPM music? Maybe that was when you provided .mp3 links. That’s the possible ruckus I was referring to.

How could I forget that? Yes, it was because I offered it for download. I still wish I could do that.

    Hi Kat,
I was going to ask if Nala’s presence in the car had improved Henry’s behavior any. She seems to be a good influence on him in other ways. As long as she doesn’t teach him how to steal things and take them into the yard to shred. 😀
It rained off and on all day today. It was raining heavily for the dogs’ first trip outside this morning so they had to go under the blow dryer when they came back inside. Rocky loves that. Piki Dog only likes it because Rocky does and Rocky can’t have anything special. The rest of the day they managed to go outside when it wasn’t raining at all.
    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
Henry has come in the dog door at least three times today. Maybe it was the rain or maybe he figured the door works both ways. To the vets the other day, Henry actually was lying down on the seat. He wasn’t even panting.

Nala stole rolls and tore apart a box today. She stole a paperback book yesterday. I chuckled as it was a Sneaky Pie Brown book and one of the protagonists is a dog.

It pretty much rained all day. Both dogs came back inside wet. I don’t have a hair dryer, but I don’t think Henry would be okay if I used one on him.

It is still raining. Henry just came in and was wet. He jumped on the couch. It will be soon be wet!

      Enjoy your evening.

    Hi Kat,

We received very little rain from Thursday through the weekend at my place. The next ten days will be beautiful with clear skies, high temperatures in the low 80s, without any predicted rain. 🙁

When I was a kid I also never minded the rain. These days I hate getting wet. When I lived in NYC in my teenage years I would think nothing of walking in the rain around Manhattan. If it was coming down hard I would duck into a bookstore or the library. I didn’t carry an umbrella. Today, I hate walking the 50 or so feet from where I park to the door at work in the rain. 🙂

      Hi Bob,
It is still raining. I don’t think it stopped at all today except for a short time. It is supposed to rain tomorrow too.

I’ve never minded the rain either. In Ghana during the rainy season we didn’t care. We just walked in the rain unless it was deluge. Like you I’d duck in somewhere like a storefront and wait a bit.

I don’t like to get wet anymore either.

    Hi Kat,
We need the rain. I think LA has rain, but we don’t. When I was a kid, in the summer, rain was good for business. Then people shopped instead of going to the beach.
I usually don’t carry an umbrella in the rain, except sometimes a pebbles children umbrella ( which as I write this I call I left in in my car). That’s because it gets windy here, and the umbrella would usually fly up and almost break.
I love hearing Henry and Nala stories. I haven’t heard anything about the cats– did I miss something.
When I woke up this morning there was no FB. I thought it was my computer!
    Take Care,
    Lori and Ms. Cookie

      Hi Lori,
It is the same in the summer here. I do not leave my house in the rain. The roads are clogged with cars filled with people looking to find something to do.

The only umbrella I own is here in the house, not so helpful in the rain.

Poor Jack doesn’t come downstairs with Nala here. I go in and scratch and pat the two cats. Something is wrong with Gwen so we go to the vets tomorrow. Just what6 I need another vet bill. The dogs were $498.11.

If it is only one web site which won’t open, it is probably the web site.

      Have a wonderful afternoon!
