“We’re all of us haunted and haunting.”

Today is a good day to stay home. It’s cloudy and chilly. I think today is the day to recognize the start of sweatshirt weather.

Yesterday was the third day this week I’ve gotten dressed. That is a new pandemic age record for me. I didn’t make it to Agway, too many cars in the parking lot, so I went to the Dollar Store. That was a new experience. I kept looking for price tags. I’ve been inside far too long.

I can’t explain it, but I like the movie There’s No Business Like Show Business. After that admission, I almost think I should use a fake voice along with my mask. The big stars are Ethel Merman, Dan Dailey, Donald O’Connor, Johnny Ray, Mitzi Gaynor and Marilyn Monroe so you can see the appeal, or maybe not. Anyway, plot details include boarding school, a musical family, vaudeville, nuns, Work War II, a priest, singers and a sailor. The ending is worthy of a Hallmark movie. Just before I left for Ghana it was on TV again. I watched again.

Election night is coming. I have the menu chosen for my dinner that night. I’m going to have donkey pasta (not from a donkey but in the shape of a donkey) and donkey garlic bread. I’m going to keep champagne on ice just in case, and I’ll wear all blue. Prayers might also be in order.

Cue the music. Cue Rod. “It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition…” Okay, here’s where I come in. My evening ritual before I go to bed is not to shut down my computer but to shut the cover which essentially shuts the computer down. This morning when I got downstairs I heard voices coming from the den, coming, I thought, from the TV, but it was from my computer. I opened the cover but could not find an open program with voices. I shut the programs down and the voices disappeared only to be replaced by music, muted and strange. I thought it came from outside so I went around listening. Nope. I followed again. The sound came from my modem. It was playing music. Mind you, not the computer, just the modem. I’m beginning to feel haunted.

    Hi Kat,

There are a couple of different “Dollar” type stores and only one actually charges one dollar for all their items. The other ones charge a dollar for only a limited number of items and charge up to five or more dollars for everything else. Today the sun hasn’t made an appearance and the temperature isn’t going to get into the low 70° as was forecast. A very dreary day here also. The real cold air should arrive by morning and we are in for about three days of cold nearly steady rain. 🙂

You may not need the Champagne on the night of November third because I’m afraid that the result of the presidential race may not be known for a very long time. I’m an optimist and hope that Biden beats Trump so badly that there’s no doubt who will be sworn in on January 21st. My biggest fear is that a close finish will spark the endless recounts in some of the battleground states. If that happens, then the election will wind up in the Supreme Court. Now, that there are six Conservative Justices, they will give the election to Trump as they gave it to G.W. Bush in 2000. That’s why Republicans rushed to fill Justice Ginsburg’s seat. Justice is not always blind but sometimes dumb. The fix is in. 🙁

      Hi Bob,
Everything I bought was actually a dollar. The one I went to is called The Dollar Store. There a different dollar store in Hyannis, but I forget its name and even where it is. I got Christmas bags there so now I can organize what I have upstairs for gifts.

Right now it is 14˚ and snowing in Colorado where my sister lives. It is supposed to go down to 8˚ tonight. I am very glad it is there, not here.

“Florida has backed the winning candidate in every election since 1996, the longest active streak of any state except Ohio, and has only backed the losing candidate twice since 1928.

They figure Florida will be finished that night, and Trump has to win it to have a chance to win it all.

With the high turnout for early voting and huge numbers of mail in ballots this year, I’m very skeptical of any past presidential election statistics. The Supreme Court gave Florida to Bush in 2,000 which Trump is betting on a replay for this year. Another possible scenario would be that Republican governors, such as Abbott in Texas, will send their own slate of Republican electors to the Electoral College regardless of the popular vote.

I hope you are right, but in the end “It’s not over until the fat lady sings”. 🙂

The hanging chads did in Al Gore, and they are no longer used in Florida. It will be an actual count there.

Arrest Abbott if he refuses to seat the elected electoral votes. There are plenty of reasons to have him arrested by federal, not locals.

As for your election, whatever helps, even as an atheist I think that prayers are ok.
I had to think of you when I read in the news today that Boston’s Fenway Park stadium is an early voting polling station due to corona and folks loved to vote there. It’s crazy to see these long lines of voters even in Massachusetts.
I don’t know really why but yesterday I bought some chocolate candy bars for Halloween kids. Nobody will come though small groups are allowed but maybe I’ll put them at the front door with a candle for neighbor’s kids just in case. Anyway, chocolate candy bars and enough beer will be perfect for this long US election night. Last time I stayed awake until Florida was announced, this time I just hope to see any state results at all.
Let’s hope that the lesser evil candidate will win but to be honest I doubt it despite all polls. Which kind of American type alcohol do you suggest when it looks like your current president will be re-elected? I just want to be prepared.

      Hi Birgit,
I don’t think there is strong enough alcohol which won’t blind you to keep on hand in case he who should not be named is reelected.

Florida is counting their mail-in ballots in real time so they’ll probably name the winner there while the world is still awake. Strategists say he has to win Florida.

50+ million people have already voted. Some wait up to 5 hours in line. That has to do with republicans closing voting areas in some states. I put mine in the mail. It is waiting to be counted.
