“We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works.”

This has not been the best of mornings. I had to get up early for a fasting blood test. The waiting room was full. When I got home, I raced for coffee and the papers. The morning started running smoothly. I then checked my e-mail, and my Mac went dark, turned off by itself. I knew why as it has happened before. My battery had run down to 1%. I checked all the connections and rearranged cords. The battery got to three then stopped recharging. Since then it has been turning on and off. I keep moving the connections but that helps for maybe one %. It is only up to 6% charged. I know it is the cord connected to the computer so I need to order a new one. In the meantime, my patience is long gone. I’m going to have to take a bye for today unless I can get the battery completely recharged. Meanwhile, I’m going to order a new one. That noise you hear is me screaming!

    Hi Kat,
Yep. I’ve done that one. Mac charger cords are delicate and don’t like to be bent or wound up. The wires fray at the connection points. I think I’ve purchased at least 3 for this laptop. I wrapped the newest one in gaffer tape at the point where the cord connects to the usb tab and at the other end where it connects to the laptop. So far, knock on wood, it’s held up pretty well.
My old Mac went translucent black. I could see what was on the screen but it was overlaid with a black shade which acted like a pop up screen. The laptop wouldn’t shut down or boot up as long as that overlay was there. I pulled the battery and reinserted it and that worked for awhile but it was ultimately a fatal condition. 🙁
Enjoy the day in spite of technology.

      Hi Caryn,
The battery worked for a while then gave up again. I got into the 70’s then down to the 30’s. Right now it is hanging in the 40’s. The new charger should be here on Sunday.

The charger looks fine to me. Nothing is frayed, and it seems to hold the connection so I have no idea what is happening. It keeps beeping. The whole thing is annoying.

      Enjoy your evening!

Hi Kat, my main Mac is a desktop iMac because it doesn’t depend on batteries and charging cords. Instead of a laptop I have an iPad which I use both at work and at home. Unfortunately, it and the iPhone depend on lithium ion batteries. The next great computer breakthrough will be in safer, longer lasting battery technology.

      Hi Bob,
I also have an iPad and an iPhone. I take the iPad with me when I travel. It gets loaded with books before I go.

I have ordered another charger which will be here on Sunday. The % keeps going up and down. I am being driven crazy by the beeping. It has been in the 70’s and is now down to the 50’s.

      Sunday best come quickly.

Sorry, I couldn’t hear you scream because the music was to loud 🙂
Great music for free today, a kind of local world jazz music contest, five bands today and 5 tomorrow. We’ve heard Persian, Ethiopian jazz, Polish and Yiddish music today and also this group which was danceable fun:

You get to hear the best music. I am totally jealous. I do get town bands.
