“Faithful followers, there is no shadow of me and a beautiful spring it shall be,” predicted Punxsutawney Phil this morning, but I’m skeptical as he is only correct 40% of the time. Come on, Phil. Didn’t you notice how cold it is when you stuck your nose outside?
Today is cloudy and a little warmer than the last few days so I have to bite the bullet and go out do a bit of shopping. I have only a small list, but I have to go to three or four stores.
Henry’s fur is all over the floor again. You can chart his route by following the line of dust. It goes from the couch, down the hall to the backdoor. I’m going to vacuum it today. I’m also going to bring my laundry basket downstairs. It is full.
When I was a kid, I would have welcomed today, a warmer than it has been Saturday. If the movie looked good, I’d go to the matinee. If not, I’d ride my bike around town, walk the tracks or even go ice skating at Recreation Park where the town erected a rink every winter. The DPW filled it with water which wasn’t very deep so the rink froze quickly. At the end of the day they’d spray the rink again so the ice would be cleared of all the skate ruts and marks, sort of a do it yourself Zamboni. I wasn’t a very good skater, but I could go backwards a bit. I’d skate until my feet started to hurt.
Quite a few years ago, I dragged my skates out of storage and went with friends to the rink in Hyannis. I could still skate, but it didn’t take long for my feet to start to hurt. I spent most of the time drinking hot cocoa and watching the skaters. I still have my skates, but I used them as a Christmas decoration. I sling them over my wooden sled. I am ten again.

Hi Kat,
Skating, skiing or snowboarding are all activities for younger folks. If I did any of those now I would surly break a limb at best or my neck at worst. I could probably figure out a way to damage myself cross country skiing. Even as a kid I was not very athletic or coordinated. When we chose sides in gym class I was always last two choices consisting of the fat kid or me. 🙂
I’m always amazed that people who believe in nonsense like the ground hog predicting the length of winter weather deny climate change and think Trump is going to make America Great Again. BTW America has been great since the end of the GW Bush years.
Today the sky is cloudy with a high in the mid 60s.

I figure even old people can skate, but skiing and snowboarding are out. Even when I was younger, I would never have tried them. I would have broken my leg.
Nobody really believes the groundhog. It is just a fun tradition. The 40% accuracy rate is happenstance. It is like tossing a coin and guessing which will land upright, heads or tails. I wouldn’t say that the climate change deniers also believe in the groundhog. His 30% base continues to believe in him. That will never change.

It was for the season fairly warm here yesterday, mostly just above 32F. Still lots of snow and I guess I would have liked it if it was Christmas, now it’s only awful 🙂 🙂 It is very windy here now just before we’ll go out on a morning walk so we’ll walk to the forest where the wind won’t reach us.
I don’t notice any hair from Albin and very little from Nova but Sune’s fur is everywhere 🙂 🙂 It is so long that it fills up my little vacuum cleaner after just a few seconds, I need to bring down the big one so that the cottage for at least a few minutes are free from it 🙂 🙂

You somehow ended up in my Spam folder so I apologize fr taking so long to answer.
We’re due for warm days for the next couple of days, but the cold will be back starting Wednesday. Henry seems not to mind the cold. He is out long enough I start to worry a bit, but he always, at least so far, comes to the door. His fur is always freezing.
Gracie’s hair would get on the backseat of the car and on the couch but never in clumps on the floor. To look at Henry you wouldn’t think his hair would e all over the floor.

Hi Kat,
Rocky has a thick undercoat which is not apparent when you look at him. His fur is all over my house. It especially collects in places downwind from the front door as that is prevailing draft direction. There’s a huge pile at the bottom of the stairway, another collection point in the corners of the doorway from the hall into the kitchen, more at the threshold from the kitchen to the bathroom and probably a massive amount underneath the tub. I do vacuum at least once a week but it’s never enough. Piki Dog doesn’t seem to shed anywhere near as much as Rocky.
Massachusetts’ official ground hog, Ms G., saw her shadow on the day so there will be 6 more weeks of winter. There would have been 6 more weeks of winter in any case because that’s how long it is until the Vernal Equinox.

Hi Caryn,
Gracie never dropped hair all over the house and neither did my other dogs. To look at Henry you wouldn’t think his hair would fall all over the place, But I can attest to the amounts on the floor. I just went upstairs to take my shower and noticed fur all over the stairs. I did this room and the hall yesterday so it looks like I’ll have to do the stairs next.
I believe Ms. G before Phil. Given this cold, I don’t see spring making an early arrival.
