The sun is in and out. It was bright when I woke up but is now hidden by clouds. The weather report is for rain this afternoon. When I went to get the papers, the wind was blowing leaves down the street. They sounded like raindrops.
My deck is bleak. The flower pots are gone and all the furniture is covered. The leaves too are gone, but the wind is blowing more of them off the trees onto the deck. Soon enough it will be covered again.
When I was a kid, the time between Halloween and Thanksgiving was boring. Every day was the same. I was caught in a kid’s rut: walk to school, wait in the schoolyard, go inside, do lessons, have lunch and recess, back to lessons, walk home, get into play clothes and maybe go outside a bit if it wasn’t too cold. I had to go back inside when the street lights came on and then I’d watch a little TV, eat dinner, watch more TV and then go to bed. If I had homework, it was sandwiched in before dinner. Back then I had very little homework, mostly spelling words and a work sheet or two, usually arithmetic. I had a good memory so the spelling words were easy to learn. The arithmetic was still easy, mostly problems to solve, and I had my fingers as backup.
Today is dump day. I always think of Gracie who loved the dump. Henry hasn’t yet come with me. I’m hoping he’ll get to love a ride the same way Gracie did. It will just take a bit of time and a huge amount of patience.
I’ve put out the basket filled with hats, gloves, scarves and mittens. My sandals are in the closet. I’ve started wearing socks, closed shoes and flannel shirts. I’m moving into winter.

The dawn comes a little earlier and this morning brought the lovely not a surprise of the ground covered in White. Nope not a frost but indeed the stuff that will plague us for the next 5 months.
I responded by demanding that Mrs MDH puts up the Christmas tree, and was met with a swift and sharp rebuke. So out on to the roads I headed to be met with Toyota Mini Van drivers that felt it necessary to gun it down to a steady 25 mph unless blizzard conditions over took the very warm roads.
I have seen a picture of the Amazon box hidden behind a pillar at my home containing the new version of The Beatles White Album.
Coincidence – probably not, everything is coming up White this Friday

Yikes, this is far too early for snow, even a small bit. We have had only a couple of frosts so the snow would be a grim surprise.
My cousin has the whole house already decorated for Christmas. She is a fanatic. I will soon decorate for Thanksgiving. Christmas will have to wait a bit.
It is the same here on the cape. I could run faster than some of the cars in front of me. I want to push them aside. I need a cow catcher on the front of my car.
Do let me know about the new version.
It seems we are having far too many coincidences. There must be something psychic afoot.

Just imagine how it was for us, we didn’t even have Halloween or thanksgiving 🙂 🙂
We had so thick fog here early this morning that I couldn’t see even 50 yards ahead of me when I was driving 🙂 🙂 Later on it changed to only cloudy and rain. We did at least get a good walk before the rain started.
I still walk barefoot here in my cottage.

We also have Veteran’s Day off in November. It is on the 11th but will be celebrated Monday as the 11th is a Sunday.
It is still cloudy and is now damp. It is supposed to rain but hasn’t yet. I saw one of the outside furniture covers has a hole so I went outside and used Gorilla tape to cover the hole. I’d hate for rain to get inside it. That was it for me and outside. I didn’t go to the dump but took a nap instead.
My feet get cold even in the house so I wear slippers.

Today the skies are clear but the temperature is in the mid 50s. The cold front that gave us rain last night will usher in the area’s first freeze by morning. The freeze line is forecast for the counties just to our north but we should wake up to a low of 35 degrees.
I took yesterday and today off to use up vacation time before losing it at the end of the year. 🙁 My company only let’s us carry over one year’s vacation and I’m finishing up 2017’s allotment. Some employers won’t let you carry over any vacation time. These lose it or use it schemes are the work of accountants who think the company stock price will be driven down by accumulated vacation time owed to employees because it’s considered an expense. Only a bean counter would come up with that idea.
I can’t believe that the “Black Friday” sales are being advertised now. Why not just decorate your house on Veteran’s Day for Christmas and start spending your money early. I always assumed the winter solstice holiday season began when Santa came down Broadway in the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade.

We were in the low 50’s today but it has been damp which makes it feel colder. I do hate it getting dark so early, but I’m just going to have to get used to it. It will only go down to the high 40’s tonight, no freeze yet.
I didn’t have vacation days, but I did have sick days which I could accumulate with no limit. Some time later the district put a limit on the number. At retirement, I was paid half a substitute’s pay for every day I accumulated. That was a loss for the district as I was an administrator and they never hired a sub for me.
I have a cousin who has already decorated her house. I buy presents all year because, as my mother used to say, that perfect gift I’m buying might not be there later.

We also accumulate sick days but if you don’t use them when you leave they go away. Of course you didn’t get vacation days, you were a teacher and had many days off. In Texas, as in most states, the school year is only 180 days. That’s half the year off.

I was an administrator and a full year employee unlike the teachers who worked only the school year, those 180 days you mentioned, plus two days.
