In 1994 I was accepting a flight simulator that we were buying which was made in Salem New Hampshire. A member of our team and I bought box seat tickets to Fenway for a Saturday afternoon game against the Orioles. It was one of the best ballgame I ever attended.
I don’t remember anything about the play on the field but I remover every minute of being at Fenway Park. Unfortunately, the only two remaining early 20th century ballparks are Fenway and Wriggly Field. Just before the game at Fenway an elderly man and his grandson where sitting in the row behind us and the grandfather told his grandson that he had watched Babe Ruth play at Fenway. My partner remarked that there were no other ballparks left where one could say they saw where Ruth had played. Even the Yankee Stadium of 1994 had been completely gutted and refurbished.

Bob,
I didn’t make it to Fenway this year, and I missed going to the park. It is such a wonderful place to watch baseball. You are so close to the action. The crowd is always into the game. Boston loves its team and loves baseball.
The owners have done a wonderful job adding seats to Fenway without disturbing the park. The seats on the green monster are a great example.
The scoreboard is still updated by hand today from behind the wall. Fenway is even on the National Register of Historic Places.

Attending a game at Wriggly Field is on my bucket list. The ticket prices have sky rocketed since the Cubs have become contenders and the place was renovated and they installed lights.

I knew they were the last holdouts when it came to lights. I’d also like to see a game at Wrigley. The Cubs are my favorite National League team.

So what’s the common link? Been to Fenway once like 30 years ago. Was in Boston on business. Only place I’ve ever been where the road shoulder was akin to an extra lane.

Common link? If you mean between the Sox and the Cubs, it would be the old ball parks, and how long it took each of the two clubs to win a World Series.

When I was in training for the Peace Corps, during the first two weeks, we had large group meetings about so many aspects of Ghanaian life. One day was about Ghanaian English. I had been asked ahead of time to stand up and speak a few sentences I had been given. I did and the crowd laughed at my Boston accent. The staff member speaker cut them short and said my accent would be the easiest for the Ghanians to understand. We shared our own sort of British accents.

That’s a little funny (and the locals thought so too). Did the Brits control Ghana at some point in the past?

Ghana was a British colony until 1957. It was the first sub-Saharan country to gain independence. It was then called Ghana, changed from the Gold Coast. English is the national language. That has to do with the need for a common language because of all the tribal languages.
