How much of this day have you already forgotten?”
Earlier this morning the sun was bright and was set in a blue, cloudless sky. Since then the clouds have taken over and hidden the sun. I’m beginning to think Mother Nature is really upset with us and is being vindictive, but I don’t know why. All I can hope is the sun fights through those clouds.
Last night we must have had a few flurries as the deck chair cover still had a bit of white on top this morning. It may rain tonight or the flurries might return.
I have a doctor’s appointment today which will get me out of the house again. I’m thinking afterwards I’ll go the long way home and go down Route 28. Maybe an open store will catch my eye, and I’ll stop.
I get bored with winter around this time every year. I’m tired of hibernating. I sit around most days in my comfy winter lay around the house outfit and read, go through cook books, randomly dust or polish and sometimes nap. All my laundry is even clean, all three bags. I also look through catalogs and check out the winter sale items. I bought a flannel shirt for myself yesterday and a Christmas present for a friend.
A favorite fish restaurant is now open for the season. I’m salivating at the thought of fried clams and onion rings. I’m thinking that my Route 28 excursion could very well end at that restaurant.
I’m watching a really bad Japanese movie from 1965 called Invasion of Astro-Monster. The only non-Japanese cast member is Nick Adams. He speaks English while all the others speak Japanese. The movie is dubbed. I think by watching this I have sunk to a new level of bad movies.
Two things are missing. One is the cat’s ceramic dish. I put it away somewhere and can’t find it. I looked in all my usual places and a few crazy ones like the oven and the napkin drawer. I was actually glad the dish wasn’t in either spot. The other missing item is a decorative tin which was once filled at Christmas with peanut butter balls. It was on the top of a cabinet for weeks then I moved it. I have no idea where it is, probably with the dish.
Broken bones and memory lapses!!! I’d better print my name and address on the tags in all my shirts.

Ooh! A fried fish sandwich with some fries would really hit the spot right now.
February 23, 2018 at 6:39 pm
sprite,
I had fried shrimp and onion rings. Both were delicious. I love the thin onion rings, and they make the sweetest at Jerry’s.

Thinking about fish sandwiches made me recall a great one from my childhood. My folks would get carryout from this tavern – almost a dive – that had huge fish sandwiches, so big that when we got home they’d add bread and make two of each. I remember that the fish used was buffalo. I now know that it’s considered a sort of freshwater junk fish, and on top of that might be toxic. Great, another childhood memory trashed. ;(

BG,
I haven’t ever heard of buffalo fish so I did a bit of hunting. The fish sandwiches were huge because the fish are huge. It reaches a length of more than 4 ft (1.2 m) and 65 lb (29 kg) in weight. That’s a lot of fish sandwiches!
I found a warning from Field and Stream about why you should pass on buffalo fish. They can cause rhabdomyolysis.

You are a survivor!!

We toss any buffalo we might happen to catch.

Spaceman,
I never heard of this fish. I come from a family of men who love to fish. My brother is a fly fishing guide. His son fishes often in salt water. My Colorado family has two fly fisherman and an 11 year old who just got his first waders. A five year old and two three year olds love to fish as well.
February 26, 2018 at 1:21 am
They might be southern fishes. Carp like
February 26, 2018 at 12:28 pm
That’s probably right, Spaceman!

I’m blaming every bad thing on the anti-Christ who resides in the White House. Glad your clothes are clean! Denise
February 23, 2018 at 6:41 pm
Denise,
I won’t argue with you!! I’m watching him say the solution to school shootings is offensive capability.
February 23, 2018 at 10:02 pm
Interestingly, there was an armed deputy sheriff on the campus outside the building during the shooting who didn’t rush inside until the shooting stopped. I think everyone should carry a concealed weapon at all times, that way no one would ever even to try to shoot someone because others including the target would kill the shooter first. 🙁 45 and the NRA would like that solution. 🙂
February 23, 2018 at 10:41 pm
Bob,
I heard that on the news. He was the resource officer so his job was to work in the high school.
Could you imagine three teachers with concealed weapons all shooting at a school shooter at the same time and those shots hitting and killing the teachers in a cross shooting?
February 23, 2018 at 11:39 pm
The anti-Christ had a rifle
February 24, 2018 at 11:45 am
That seals it! No rifle for me!
February 23, 2018 at 11:10 pm
You can adequately guard a jewel store and adequately guard an all-night convenience store, but you can’t adequately guard 3000 high schoolers.
February 23, 2018 at 11:15 pm
Spaceman,
My school had 1200 high schoolers, and you can’t adequately guard them either.
February 23, 2018 at 11:35 pm
You just might need more than one guard. Schools are more important than traffic tickets. Massachusetts still has an active State Defense Force. They’d be happy to help if the police are short-handed.
February 24, 2018 at 11:42 am
Spaceman,
Maybe a perimeter of tanks would be good protection.
February 24, 2018 at 12:08 am
I’ve seen that film long ago and yes it is a really bad one 🙂 🙂 🙂
It’s cold and cloudy as it has been most of the week but it is still rather bright outside. I’m still bored with this weather and it’s long until spring will arrive up here. I always hope for an early one, we did get that last year and nasty high temperatures in May but after that the summer was mostly cool and cloudy but no rain at all.
I have a couple of things I look after too 🙂 I just can’t remember where I put them but I know that I did do something with them 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.
February 24, 2018 at 11:44 am
Christer,
It was so awful I couldn’t watch it any more.
Today is a nice day with sun which looks like it may be staying around. I was sick of the clouds every day. It even rained a bit most days. The ocean keep us cool a longer time in spring.
That bowl is driving me crazy!!

1 Resource Officer per 750 students should suffice. And schools often have veterans on staff who could be used as back-up security if desired. Primary value is as a deterrent. Local law enforcement. school boards, and parents need to decide what protective measures are appropriate for their schools.
February 24, 2018 at 2:40 pm
Spaceman,
The school where I worked for so long was one of the first in the state to have a resource officer. He and I worked together trying to figure out what our singular roles as well as our roles together were. The program which the community first thought an awful idea because it implied the school needed police became a welcome addition even by parents. We are a regional school for two towns. The second town police took longer to agree to take part, but when they did, we had two resource officers for 1200 kids. The program has been widely successful. Each carries a gun as they regular town police officers. They are the best!
February 24, 2018 at 8:19 pm
What kind of duties (aside from guarding) did these officers do in a typical day? I could see where there could be some side benefits in students simply interacting with policemen in a good manner
February 24, 2018 at 8:32 pm
Interacting with the officers was the best part. One of them was even the advisor to one of the clubs. They often got tips from kids about community crimes. They spoke to classes. They were there too for any arrests like when I’d catch kids with drugs. Guarding wasn’t one of their defined duties. They were considered staff members and police officers. In the summer they were regular police officers.
February 24, 2018 at 8:47 pm
That’s part of why I asked – couldn’t hardly envision them sitting in the front office “guarding” the entrance. They would be good examples for the teens. And I would think having the police around would serve discourage hostilities like fighting and drugs. Is that (drugs) something you had to deal with on a routine basis?
February 24, 2018 at 9:01 pm
Drugs were an issue for a while then not an issue. Kids still fought, but even I had no problem breaking them up. They’d get suspended and sometimes arrested if the fight got to the point of disturbing the school. That was a deterrent.
Both resource officers always wore regular clothes. Now that resource officers are the norm in most schools, kids have no problems interacting with them.
February 24, 2018 at 10:20 pm
I’m thinking the Resource Officers in this area area are uniformed city policemen – but not positive of that. I’ll ask around, I’m interested now. Arresting kids for fighting strikes me as excessive, but I’m sure that’s because that didn’t happen when I was a teen. The coaches traditionally broke up fights – often after the boys had fought for a while provided it was a reasonably competitive match. Fights were pretty infrequent.
February 24, 2018 at 10:44 pm
Spaceman,
Kids weren’t usually arrested for fighting. The actions had to be excessive.
Uniformed policemen are probably not resource officers.
February 25, 2018 at 6:54 am
In the county, wear their casual uniforms

February 25, 2018 at 10:39 am
That is a great description of their duties. I like the casual uniform.
February 25, 2018 at 10:27 pm
They are armed. 9mm Glocks – favored brand among policemen.
Nice guns, but pricey. I make do with a 9mm Hungarian FÉG. About half the cost
February 25, 2018 at 10:43 pm
I have no idea what sort of gun they carried. I never saw their guns outside the holsters.
February 25, 2018 at 11:30 pm
Where I used to go to church, they hired county deputies for traffic control. I liked to chat with them about what kind of crime was going on in the county. Decent guys all around. No, they won’t show people their guns. And a couple of my relatives are what people might erroneously label “gun nuts”. But you won’t find people that are more safety conscious than them. They simply enjoy collecting and shooting as a hobby. Taught me plenty, which I dearly appreciated.
February 25, 2018 at 11:45 pm
Spaceman,
One of my nephews has a collection of guns. I don’t know how many, but I do know he has more than 20.
February 26, 2018 at 1:27 am
Your ancestors are minutemen. Marksmen in your bloodlines. You’d likely be a natural rifle(wo)man. Johnny rebs in my ancestry, There like a stonewall stands Jackson.
February 26, 2018 at 12:26 pm
Spaceman,
No guns for me, no shooting at targets. I am averse to guns.
February 27, 2018 at 3:07 pm
I don’t think everyone should be armed.I just think everyone has the right to bear arms .And so does the US Constitution.
February 27, 2018 at 5:15 pm
Spaceman,
I read the second amendment to mean bearing arms in a militia,
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This was adopted in On December 15, 1791 when the US was a very different place, a country being born, a time the a gun meant feeding your family through hunting. I figure the definition of a gun and its possibilities then is very different from the guns of today with their high death counts.
February 27, 2018 at 9:26 pm
Any inference that it pertains to militia was summarily dispelled in Heller v. District of Columbia. The rest is “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”. A plain reading would say that the people (citizens) have a constitutional right to possess and carry arms (guns, knives, bows, etc) that shall not be interfered with. The amendment does not limit what kind of arms or for what purpose. The words mean the same today as they did in 1791
February 27, 2018 at 10:32 pm
I just would not think to need any sort of arms. Other than that nephew, no one I know has any weapons. I guess we, my friends and I, are just the products of when we grew up. Admittedly, the world was a far safer place then but we still live in hope.
February 28, 2018 at 10:16 am
Many people don’t want to own or even like firearms, and that’s perfectly fine. But most the debate over firearms is based on personal opinion rather than on the legal foundation for citizens to own and carry arms. Congress or states can pass whatever restrictions they care to. It’s another matter entirely if the changes will pass constitutional muster. I’m thinking we have spent enough time on this; thanks for your patience in talking it out. Back to la musica, con permiso.
February 28, 2018 at 11:35 am
Spaceman,
I agree that it is time to move on to something else. I think is important to answer my Coffee friends.
