“You can’t teach people to be lazy – either they have it, or they don’t.”

We’re back to clouds. Everything out my window looks grey, particularly the pine branches and the sky. Today has no wind. Every branch, even the smallest, is still. The air feels damp even though rain is not in the forecast. I have to do a couple of errands. Getting cat food is at the top of my list.

Lately I just haven’t wanted to do anything. I’m calling it my winter doldrums. Up until early January was almost a frenzy with Christmas shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking and entertaining. My house is dusty. My laundry is unwashed. Recycled newspapers, cardboard boxes and a trash bag sit by the front door. I think they’re growing roots. I wake up every day resolved to get stuff done, but I go to bed without having done much of anything. I’m glad Maddie needs food so I’ll definitely have to go out, and I’ll take all the trash and stuff to the car when I go. The dump isn’t open until Thursday.

Maddie is still driving me crazy. She meows at me all the time. She sounds insistent and a bit angry. I change the water, give her a little roast beef, fill her dish and pat her almost endlessly but she still meows. I think she misses Gracie. This is the first time in her 18 1/2 years she has been the only pet. Right now she is sitting beside me on the couch while I pat her and scratch her ears. She’s purring.

I woke up at 6 this morning, looked out the window and saw how dark it was so I turned over and went back to sleep. I woke up at ten.

The TV news was interesting today. A woman found a lizard in her salad mix from the grocery store. She poked her fork into an avocado or what she thought was an avocado and out came a lizard, a lizard from California. It seems the controversy about Doritos being un- friendly to ladies continues. Women it seems don’t like to crunch too loudly in public so Nooyi, the CEO of PepsiCo, said the company is preparing to launch chips for women that will be “low-crunch” with a “full taste profile” that will “not have so much of the flavor stick on the fingers” and can fit in a handbag because “women love to carry a snack.” Doiritos responded, “We already have Doritos for women – they’re called Doritos, and they’re enjoyed by millions of people every day.” Snow is coming but the Cape will have the least amount, 0-2 inches.

Well, I need to finish here. Maddie is stirring. I know she wants something. She just howled at me.

I think it was cloudy all day here and it is still much colder outside than what they say it is 🙂 It is winter so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it 🙂

Isn’t the crunching a bit of the thing with eating chips? I actually don’t like chips so I don’t know really 🙂 I don’t however like the breath of people who just have eaten chips, can they do anything about that instead of insulting women? 🙂 🙂 🙂

I would gladly have stayed at home today doing nothing and it looked like most people at work would have done the same if they could 🙂 Tuesdays are always slow and boring so I guess that would be true for all Tuesdays of the year 🙂

    Have a great day!

I was cold when I went out. The temperature was only in the high 20’s, and it was damp which made it feel worse. I got all my errands done and hurried home to the warmth of my house.

The Doritos always crunch, and I don’t think they’d be Doritos without the crunch.

I felt a bit accomplished and was glad I’d gone out. Maddie has plenty of food, and I got chicken noodle soup at one of my favorite places. They don’t make it all the time so I could have missed it.

      Have a wonderful evening!

60 years ago today, the plane carrying the Manchester United football team from a European Cup tie in Belgrade stopped in Munich on the way home. On a third attempt to take off, the plane crashed killing most of the “Busby Babes”. It left an indelible mark.

I was never a supporter of Manchester United but could not resent any success that came to Sir Matt Busby and Bobby Charlton who survived the crash. In 1968, the country watched as they won the European Cup at Wembley.

Many years ago, I had breakfast with Bobby Charlton and he told me that winning the European Cup meant more to him than any other achievement, including the World Cup, because of Munich and Sir Matt.

Supporting a football team is tribal, opinionated, unforgiving, and unreasonable . Today I remember Munich with respect.

      My Dear Hedley,
With any disaster such as that crash, the team and the survivors have supporters to help them get through the grief and to help them carry on if they can. I think Munich deserves to be remember with respect.

It is close to the crash of Sabena Flight 548 which crashed en route from New York City to Brussels, Belgium, on February 15, 1961, killing all 72 on board and one person on the ground. Those killed included the entire U.S. figure skating team on its way to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia. It took years before US skating was able to comeback from this disaster.

Today in 1918 women achieved the right to vote in Great Britain. Now 100 years later we can buy low-crunch women’s chips to carry around in a handbag. A dream came true 😉
It’s cold. Not your kind of arctic cold just ~27°F with about 3 snowflakes.

    • Hedley Says:

Birgit, of course you had to be 30 and own property….heard a really interesting discussion on advancement of women over the last 100 years from the pill to the washing machine to Education

One caller to Five Live said her Great Grandmother had 22 children, her Grand Mother 7 and her Mother 2.

    • katry Says:

I’m hoping all of that was merely tongue in cheek. What I don’t like about Doritos is they leave your hands all covered in whatever pieces and herbs they put on the chips. I suppose they could devise gloves for women to wear while eating them.

Snow coming tomorrow but not there.

    • Birgit Says:

Kat, of course it was. My life is nearly ad-free, I couldn’t care less about pink girly chips or such fashion stuff and apart from that I don’t even own a single handbag.

Hedley, right, many achievements by now but also still a long way to go.

I’m so glad for the humor of it.

I own a purse which I carried when I went to a wedding. I still have it but haven’t used it in years. I added to my wardrobe this year and bought two flannel shirts, fancy ones as they actually had pockets.

        I live comfortably.

  4. Bob Says:

The CEO of Pepsico must be a Trump supporter because he appears to want to turn the clock back at least 50 years. Woman today will eat their snack chips regardless of the crumbs or the crunch. How can woman get equal pay for equal work if they have separate male and female versions of Doritos? Separate can never be equal. 🙂

Cold rain today and tonight. The high was in the upper 30s.

    • katry Says:

I don’t know how serious they are as I can’t imagine a softer tostado would taste as good as a crunchy one.
