“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.”

My house is quiet, emptier. I keep expecting Gracie to be sleeping on her part of the couch. I know missing her will get easier, but right now it isn’t. I think dogs make us better people.

The rain poured last night. I was treated to the pounding of rain on the roof and the howling of the wind. It was weather from a Vincent Price movie. When I got up around 3 or 4, it was still raining. I fell back to sleep, and at 10, when I woke up, the rain was gone. Now it is sunny with the blue sky as a backdrop. Today will be warm. Tonight will be freezing, only in the 20’s. The weatherman described it as a quick freeze. It will be cold the rest of the week.

All of Christmas is packed away until next year. Leandro and Roseana came to clean but did so much more. Lee took down my tree and put it outside. He brought my pine tree down the cellar. He and Roseana rid the living floor of pine needles though we all know they never really disappear. One or two will pop up every few days. Lee took Gracie’s crate to the cellar leaving a huge, open space behind.

Last night my friends took me out to dinner. We went to a Thai restaurant, Bangkok Kitchen, new to all of us. It was tiny and had only 8 tables and all of them were filled. People were waiting. After tasting the food, I knew why there were no empty tables. I had a dish called Massaman Yellow Curry. It was assorted vegetables and roasted peanuts in a coconut massaman curry sauce. The coconut drew me right away. It was a great choice: the dish was a delight.

My dance card is empty for the weekend. I’ll watch the Pats play Tennessee tonight but that ‘s as far in the future as I’ve gone.

Hit the driveway at 6:30, my sleep pattern is awful especially when I know there is work to be done. Ran up to Metamora with the kids to get some framing done and now watching Tottenham. Mass calls at 5:30

    Thinking about you Kat

      My Dear Hedley,
I have learned to ignore those guilty thoughts if I don’t get something done. I now have all the time I could need so tomorrow is always an option.

      Enjoy the game!

We’ll sing this season’s last Christmas songs tomorrow, a chorus concert in a nice old church. I hope some people still want to hear them but we’ll also sing other songs. Maybe I should take down my Christmas decorations too next week. At least the stars, I don’t want to miss the white lights yet.

      Birgit,
It all went away on Thursday. Until then my tree had been complete. My outside lights still come on. This time of year needs that light.

I always think Christmas songs are around for too short a time. If I were there, I come to hear them sung for another time.

We’re probably among the few in Coffee who knew Gracie personally (doggily?). We’ll miss her on our next visit.
It was 57 this morning and is now 18 and falling.😎
    That Thai food sounds delicious.

      Bill,
Gracie loved visiting you and Peg. You walked her and Peg gave her treats. I loved it when Gracie made herself at home, jumped on your couch and lied down beside Peg.

We’re going to have somewhat the same weather. The weather man called it a quick deep freeze. Thai food next visit!!

      I like doggily!

Glad to hear that your dinner at the restaurant was a success. Unfortunately, after Indian food I find Tai food my least favorite. I dislike curry, cilantro, jalapeños and lemongrass. Basically the things that make Tai food Tai.

This weekend has been stressful because my 83 yo mother in law has been the victim of the powerball scam to the tune of $140,000 Sadly, she still thinks that several celebrities will be coming to her house to celebrate her winnings for which she purchased several bottles of wine. The woman doesn’t have dementia, just a case of dumb ass. Sometimes being orphaned is not at bad thing.

Sunny skies with highs in the mid 40s. Chance of light snow on Monday night.

      Bob,
Mine was a curry dish but the curry was light, far lighter than the curry I make. Lots of Thai dishes have none of the herbs you mentioned, especially the appetizers. I could have a dinner of appetizers.

I remember reading that scam artists target the elderly. I’m so sorry for your mother-in-law. That’s horrible, even to the buying of the wine.

We had a warm day but will freeze tonight and the next few days.

Yesterday was tjugondag Knut (would be something like twentieth day Knut) which is the day we dance out Christmas. An old tradition when they hang up lots of candies in the Christmas tree and kids dance around it for the last time and rob the tree from the candy. I’m not sure how many people still does this but I guess many do since old traditions now have become popular again.

I didn’t do that though but I did pick out some candy from the big box I got from Joyce 🙂

Yes it’s always so empty after our old friends have left us. Even when one like me have several dogs and cats it’s still feels empty. One has fought for so long to make it work so the old friend can stay for much longer so the bond between us get so much stronger than one would think it could be and suddenly it’s all gone.

    Take care!

    Christer.

      Christer,
Our last day of Christmas is January 6th, the day of the three kings arriving in Bethlehem, but we never have had the great festival you have. I always love the Swedish celebrations and I envy you the trolls and witches and all sorts of beings you have.

I slept on the couch for 4 months because Gracie couldn’t do stairs anymore. She had acupuncture to help with her legs. I would have done anything to help her. Gracie was the dog of my retirement. She never had to put up with me being away working. I think that’s why we had such a strong bond.

My house is far too quiet. Last fall poor Fern left us and now Gracie. Maddie is 18 and seems healthy but Fern went quickly so I’m hoping for Maddie and keeping and eye on her.

      Thanks, Christer
