“Flowers… are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world.”

I’m getting used to these beautiful fall days. Earlier, the morning was crispy and chilly, but the bright sun has dispelled the chill. The sky is a deep blue. A breeze shakes the branches, and more leaves keep falling, mostly oak leaves. I was excited and surprised to see newly bloomed flowers in my front garden. The flowers are purple, and that’s all I know about them. Now,hite and purple flowers are blooming in the front beds. It as if the garden is giving me its last gifts before the end of fall, before the coming winter.

I slept the whole night last night. The phone woke me at 8:15. It was a robo-call which I didn’t answer. Ten minutes later there was another call, but this one I answered. I knew the caller. Gracie then joined me on the couch, and we both went back to sleep.  The phone woke me again, and I cursed until I saw the time. It was late morning, close to ten. I answered the call then got up and began my morning rituals.

I am getting braced for the coldest times of year, for winter. In Ghana this time of year I braced for the dry season, for the total lack of rain for at least 5 months. I knew intense heat was coming with days hot enough to melt my unlit candle, but I also knew a reprieve was coming. The nights would start to get chilly, not New England chilly but chilly by comparison with the days. The temperature dropped over 30˚ every night. My bedroom had two rows of louvered windows; one row was the whole length of the wall beside my bed while the other was a single louvered window on the end wall next to the armoire. I’d leave the windows opened. It got cold, but feeling cold was glorious. I’d snuggle under the wool blanket I kept on my bed. I still have that blanket and keep it folded over the back of my couch. It brings smile from all the memories. It is also pretty itchy. I guess I forgot that part.

One of Your old low pressures arrived here today so gone are the warm and sunny days we had until yesterday. It was so bad when I came home after work that we didn’t even take a walk.

Summer night here can be rather chilly too It isn’t unusual that it drops from 77F down to 41F so I know what You mean, it is a nice chilly when one is sleeping. This summer however it never really became hot during the days and never really chilly during the nights.

I am hoping for another mild winter but I guess that might be too much to hope for, I doubt we’ll get three mild winters in a row. I really don’t mind if it gets cold, it is the snow I don’t like.

    Have a great day!

We had days and days of that weather. I’m sorry you got it, but I’m glad it is gone. Maybe the great weather we are having will come your way.

We also had a weird summer with a span, a week or more, of really hot days in July but not the rest of the summer. It was actually a nice summer.

Maybe mild winters are your new norm. I can stand the cold, but, like you, I’m not a fan of snow. It makes everything difficult.

      Have a wonderful evening!!

    Hi Kat,
I was so cold yesterday that I sat for awhile in my jeep with the heater running. Figuring this was silly, I went back in the house and took the AC unit out of the window, closed all the windows, and turned on the main switch to the oil burner. I set the temp at 55, though, figuring it wouldn’t get that cold. Last night the heat went on at least once and it came on again this morning. It did get that cold. It’s nice now. The sun has warmed the front porch and I have the door open so the heat will come into the house.

My bedroom is unheated. The weird thing is that I always felt warmer in my freezing cold bedroom when I was snuggled under a heavy (usually very scratchy) wool blanket. Of course, it was even warmer when there was a warm dog curled up at my feet under the blanket. 🙂

Today is lovely. Slightly breezy with a bright blue sky and brilliant sun.

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
My house got cold during the night so I got the afghan, but this morning it was just too cold so I turned on the heat until the house warmed then turned off the heat.

My upstairs is always hotter and colder than the other floors as it is a third floor. With the heat down at night, it gets quite cold, and I love it. I have a down comforter far better than itch wool.

I so agree about today. I even got out and did a couple of errands.

      ave a great evening!

Autumn has arrived because I drove to work this morning with my sunroof open in 70 degree temperature. It’s now only 91 degrees.

Yesterday the Cowboys played the first half of their game with the LA Rams and then mentally went home at halftime. 🙂 I saw that your Pats also lost a game. On any given Sunday, or now Monday or Thursday night, any NFL team can beat any other NFL team. My father always said that after a Cowboy loss along with wait till next year after another losing Ranger baseball season.

The tragedy this morning in Las Vegas was utterly senseless. I respect the right granted by the second amendment to bear and keep arms, but does that mean one should own an arsenal? Or why does anyone need to own military automatic weapons? My heart goes out to the families of all the victims of this random crazy man’s rampage.

There’s a free app for your phone called Hiya that will rid your phone of those robo calls.

The prediction is for a La Niña winter meaning warmer and wetter weather. Last winter our last freeze was in January and we had a record number of 80 degree days. My new leather jacket is still hanging in my closet having only worn it one day all last winter. There’s no global warming, What me worry? 🙂

You and I have a totally different perspective of the seasons. We might reach 90˚ once or twice a summer, usually in August.

The Pats should have just given the ball away before the game even started. The defense was horrible. It was a last minute field goal which did them in. At least I still have the Sox.

The second amendment says, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” I don’t see that as a right to keep and bear arms unless you are a part of a militia. It doesn’t mention the rights of the individual. I don’t ever see the need of any individual to own an automatic weapon, a weapon of war. The gun laws in Vegas make owning a gun easy. Massachusetts has a strict gun law but even that isn’t enough.

      Thanks on the app!

We didn’t get as much snow as usual, but we had some mighty deep snow falls. Nope, no global warming!

      • Bob Says:

Unfortunately the Supreame Court disagreed with us in District of Columbia v. Heller which was decided in 2005 that the right to posses fire arms is unconnected from service in a Militia for traditionally lawful purposes. The decision was split 5 to 4 with the opinion joined by Roberts, Alito, Scalia, Kennedy and Thomas. Elections have real consequences. I know many people with whom I work who wouldn’t vote for Hillary in the last election because of their fear that she would appoint justices who wouldn’t protect their second amendment rights to bear arms as decided in the above case.

      • katry Says:

        Thanks and this sucks!

      • Bob Says:

If you think that sucks, this is even worse:

That is frightening. Think of pieces in carry-on luggage. There are so many other places for crazies to shoot using ghost guns!
