Mortify,
That is such a hometown parade, my favorite sort of parade. It does seem to be a truck and float parade. I’m thinking it must be out west with all the horses.

mortify,
Nothing is more American than a picnic or barbecue on the 4th. It is difficult to believe that it has been 50 years since this was filmed. Things have changed so much in that time.

minicapt,
Something about this photo said the 20’s to me. Maybe it was the dresses, but I’m guessing.
Over time it seems that many of the celebrations stay the same. There are still kids dressed in red, white and blue and bike and doll carriage decorating. I love July 4th.

My old neighborhood association would organize a 4th of July parade led by a fire engine. Every kid in the neighborhood would decorate their bike, trike or wagon in red, white and blue bunting. The parade would end at the neighborhood pool club where they usually set up a snow cone machine. The town of Addison would sponsor a huge fireworks display on the airport called Kaboom town. The fireworks was preceded by a flyby of WWII airplanes from the Cavenaugh flight museum. There’s nothing like the sound emanating from a radial piston engine driving a multi blade propeller.

Bob,
They also had decorated bike and doll carriage parades. My sister once won the doll carriage parade. She and her carriage were dressed like hula girls with grass skirts. My sister also had a flowered lei and flowers in her hair.
That flyby must have been spectacular.

Mortify,
I love this version. The photos are wonderful, and I do like his voice. I did not know all the verses so it was a nice surprise to hear them here.
I especially like the stanza about the stars.

Mortify,
I love this. It is so beautiful. The fireworks coming from the torch is a great illusion as are the lights on her crown.
Thanks!
