The weather stay cooperative last night so we had our movie night. Continuing the trend of bad movies we watched The Time Travelers. Three scientists and one other guy wearing a jumpsuit and sporting a shirt and tie went through a portal to the future, a grim future. Mutants lived above ground and humans lived below ground. Earth was doomed so a spaceship was being built and provisioned for a trip to Alpha Centauri. The women underground wore the tightest mostly pink-collared jumpsuits (which had panty lines to give you an idea of how tight). The men wore more elaborate jumpsuits with weird collars. The rest of the plot had the mutants attacking, our intrepid time travelers and a few underground scientists going back in time via the portal. They, however, went back too soon. I won’t give away the rest of the plot in case you are in the mood for a really bad science fiction movie.
The food was wonderful last night. We split a chicken quesadilla and a pizza, half cheese and half pepperoni. For movie candy we had chocolate covered caramel balls and chocolate covered bacon caramel balls. We played a game of Phase 10 first. It gets dark so early now the evening was over by 9.
The weather is damp. The sky is gray cloudy. A strong breeze comes and goes. No rain is expected here, but much of the state will have thunder showers. The house is really dark. I needed a light to read the papers. I have no ambition today. I gathered my laundry but purposefully left it upstairs. My bed is unmade. I’m not dressed, and I don’t intend to get dressed.
A bunny was in my yard when I went to get the papers. It hopped off when I got close. The coyotes must be elsewhere.
The big news is I have a new neighbor. She moved in two houses down. Yesterday there was a u-haul in the driveway and about 5 or 6 cars parked in front of the house. She is my third new neighbor in the last year, all of them women.
I am getting drowsy. Being the only creature in the house still awake makes me want to conform the standards set by the two cats and the dog. I think that’s probably why I didn’t make my bed.

The movie plot sounds like s reversal of H.G. Wells’ novel about time travel sans the panti lines. In his book the meek humans lived an idyllic life above ground and the mutants who ate them for breakfast lived underground. I don’t think a new joke has been invented in years nor a new SiFi plot line. Everyone is some variation on an older one. 🙂
Today the weather is idyllic. Clear skies, low humidity, no wind and temperature in the 70s. As the day progresses it might get up to the upper 80s. Right now it’s just beautiful outside.
Having a new neighbor can be a crap shoot. You can get the Anderson’s of father knows best or the Bumpass’ of Jean Shepherd fame in the ‘Christmas Story’. Our downstairs neighbor complained about us from the moment we moved into our condo. The apartment had been unoccupied for five years and she complained about every sound even the sound of normal walking. Since she figured out we are owners and not renters she has not complained except to say that we have an active family.
Today the NFL kicks off the regular season, the Cowboys sans Tony Romo take on the Giants and Eli Manning. Good luck Pokes, they will need it. 🙂

Bob,
We talked about the Wells’ movie last night. The land above ground was dry and rocky. It looked like a lava landscape which is why humans lived underground.
My house is getting hotter, but the breeze has returned. I think I’m in the coolest room. When I go upstairs, I’ll turn on the bedroom air, the only window unit I kept.
The other two new neighbors tend to keep to themselves. I figure I’ll invite the friendlier new one and the one I haven’t met to dinner with some other neighbors so they can meet.
The Pats are without Brady and Gronk and two other guys, one of them being Solder, another loss. My head is still in baseball mode.

I have to admit that chocolate covered bacon caramel balls doesn’t sound that tasty 🙂 but as my grandmother always said, You don’t know what You like until You’ve tried it once 🙂
The film however is something I’ll be looking after, I did read the plot on the net and it sounds bad enough for me to like it 🙂
Really nice day here so I had to mow the last parts of the grass. It wasn’t too bad but still it was mowing 🙂 We’ll have a good weather week next week too, perhaps even better than it was this weekend they say.
I’ve been lucky to get only great new neighbors so I’ve told them that they never can move away again 🙂 I hope Your new one is one of those!

I wasn’t fond of the bacon candy. The caramels were a different story!
My friends liked it. They both said we asked for a bad movie, and that’s what you gave us.
Supposedly one night will get as low as the 40′. That means a blanket on the bed and animals getting cozy.

Red Velvet Cheesecake
Serves 12
Red Velvet Cake
½ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup all-purpose flour, plus 1 tablespoon to coat pan
1½ teaspoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
Small pinch coarse salt
1 large egg
¼ cup sunflower oil
¼ cup coconut oil
⅓ cup buttermilk
¼ teaspoon vanilla paste
¼ teaspoon red gel food coloring
1 teaspoon butter to coat pan
Cheesecake
3 cups cream cheese (24 ounces)
1 cup granulated sugar
¾ cup heavy cream
¼ teaspoon coarse salt
3 large eggs, lightly beaten
1½ teaspoons lemon juice (about ½ lemon)
Cream Cheese Frosting
½ cup cream cheese (4 ounces)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
½ cup powdered sugar
¼ teaspoon vanilla paste
½ cup chopped pecans
The red velvet cake: Preheat oven to 325°F. In a large bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Whisk together to combine.
In the bowl of your stand mixer, or a large bowl, add the egg and oils. Mix on medium-low for 1 minute to combine.
Add the buttermilk, vanilla, and red gel. Mix on medium-low for 1 minute to combine.
With the mixer on medium-low, slowly add the dry mixture. Mix until the flour is just incorporated.
Butter and flour (shake off excess) a 10-inch springform pan. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 35 minutes. Let cake completely cool.
The cheesecake: In the bowl of your stand mixer, combine the cream cheese, sugar, heavy cream, and salt. Beat together until thoroughly mixed. Add the eggs, beat together. Stir in the lemon juice.
Pour on top of the cooled red velvet cake in the springform pan. Bake at 325°F for 45 minutes.
Remove from the oven and cool on a rack. The cheesecake will look slightly golden. Let cool completely.
The cream cheese frosting: In the bowl of your stand mixer or a large bowl, add the cream cheese and softened butter. Mix on medium speed until combined.
Slowly add the powdered sugar, a few spoonfuls at a time. Pour in vanilla paste.
Spread the frosting on the cooled cheesecake and sprinkle the pecans evenly on top of the frosting. Store in the fridge
