The car in the background looks interesting, like a mixture of an old VW beetle and a new chevrolet which was quite popular over here. I’m not really familiar with American cars, is it an old chevrolet?

Birgit,
That car is too old for me to remember.
I do see the VW similarity in the rear end of the car. It looks like an old Bug was cut in half.

Probably a 1937 Chevrolet Coupe, nicknamed a ‘sloper coupe’ for the design of the rear. Possibly Australia, where it was built by Holden.
The image is probably reversed as the gas tank filler cap is on the right wheel sponson.
Cheers
