“Things have their time, even eminence bows to timeliness.”

Here I am standing alone in the spotlight in the middle of the stage bowing to the adulation of the crowd. They are on their feet clapping and whistling. Why you wonder? Well, I did five errands this morning and just got through putting everything away. Now I am sitting, having a cold drink and drying off. The breeze behind me is cool so it won’t take long. Traffic everywhere was so thick I swear there must be deserted towns off cape. I was behind cars from five different states.

My first stop was the bank then next was the farmers’ market where I spend all but $1.80 from the bank money. I bought pickles, eggs, corn, heirloom tomatoes, bread, goat cheese and mosquito repellant spray. My last stop was for tonight’s movie night and the few things I needed. Those few things filled three bags.

The movie tonight is Westworld unless the crowd has already seen it of late. I know I haven’t. Yul Brynner is amazing as the android gone amok, relentless and frightening. In a bit, I’ll get the deck ready so I can loll when my moviegoers arrive. I really enjoy movie night.

Living in New England means four distinct seasons, four singular ways to enjoy the world. When I was a kid, my favorite was summer with its endless days to do whatever I wanted. I remember sleeping outside in the backyard and how the night was bright with starlight. Every day was sunny. Fall was beautiful but it had to shake off back to school time. It mostly did. I still associate fall with one of my favorite all time smells, the aroma of burning leaves, even though it has been years since I last smelled those leaves. I loved walking in the gutters and kicking leaves as I walked. Winter had snow and Christmas, an unbeatable combination. I loved winter despite the cold and even sometimes because of it. Spring was a delight. It was time to put away the heavy coats, hats and mittens and bring my bike out of hibernation. I remember flying down the hill riding my bike on the way to school. I’d let loose of the handlebars and stretch my arms straight out in the wind. I was exhilarated, and I was airborne. Being stuck in traffic gives me time for memories.

Summer in a resort area has it’s downside during the tourist season. You get to enjoy the Cape year round.

I don’t remember Westworld except for Yul Brynner. He was a heavy smoker and died of lung cancer at age 65. His last public appearance included a plea to never start smoking or quit smoking.

We also have four seasons in North Texas except that you will miss Spring and Autumn if you blink. 🙂 During the long hot summers I had lots of time to explore the neighborhoods nearby on my bicycle. An army surplus canteen filled with water, a peanut butter sandwich and my bike and I was off to explore.

Yesterday was only the second day to break 100 this summer. Right now at DFW airport today will be the third day.

      Bob,
That’s for sure though those tourists keep my taxes low so I shouldn’t complain too much.

I didn’t know that about how he died. He had such an immense presence in any role, even this one as a crazed android.

We did the same thing with a sandwich and a thermos of water. We loved to watch the cows at the dairy farm and the zoo was great fun. The town was so much smaller back then we covered it all year by year.

That sounds like a cool summer for you (tongue in cheek remark here). We have had about 3 days which broke 80˚. Today is massively humid: 85%. I am sweating and my hair is soaked. We had a bit of rain so I had to bring everything inside I had already put out for the night. Then it stopped, and I put everything back then it started again, and I brought it all in. I am now having a drink while I contemplate my next move.

I can’t remember Westworld and probably missed it. After reading the summary I think I should see it sometime.
    Summer greetings. Have fun!

    • katry Says:

      Thanks, Birgit

Right now it is raining a tiny bit. Under the deck umbrella is dry so there is still hope. We can always watch inside though I’d want to turn on the AC as it is sticky and ugly with humidity.

It is a really good movie.

Never saw the movie, so I went to IMDb to investigate. Still not sure I’d ever really care to watch it (not exactly what I *think* is my cup of tea), but it has one of the best tag lines ever: “…Where nothing can possibly go worng!” Enjoy your trip to the “amusement park for rich vacationers.”

You must know how much I liked today’s music selections. Of course, I have all of them, but that didn’t diminish my enjoyment. It appears we both somehow found the same blog entry (I show the date at 8-3-13). Wish I could remember where it was; I’d like to go back for seconds.

97º in the shade on my balcony. Sounds hot, but I may be wishing for that “cool” tomorrow… the forecast is for 102º. Hydrate! Hydrate!

      im6,
My moviegoers really liked it. I remembered all of it, but the only other person who has seen it didn’t. I’m not sure it is your cup of tea either, but I knew I liked it and figured the crowd would.

I also don’t remember where I found these. I just knew I liked them all. They remed like fun choices for a summer Saturday.

102˚ I remember-blazed into my memory drawers when I lived in Bolgatanga. No fans and no AC-just heat. Right now it is so humid I am melting. I just turned on the AC upstairs for sleeping. Any movement tonight meant being soaked from the humidity. I am a sweaty mess.

    Hi Kat,
I was checking out that little girl’s bike to see if there were wooden blocks attached to the pedals. That’s pretty much what all my bikes looked like. Too big for me because I would grow into them eventually. 🙂

In the fall you must gather a handful of leaves, place them reverently on a suitable patch of yard and, with great ceremony, burn them. For the memories.
Perhaps you could have a closing of the deck rite with ceremonial burning of the autumn leaves as part of the festivities.

It was a lovely day up here. No rain, not much humidity. Not a lot of sun but hey, can’t have everything.
The dogs and I are going on a field trip tomorrow to my brother’s cottage. Rocky is a well-behaved guest. We shall see how Piki Dog fares.

Enjoy the evening. Good Yul. 🙂

    • katry Says:

      Hi Caryn,
I remember some of my friends had the wooden blocks. I was able to reach the pedals so I didn’t need them.

This fall I will do that. That’s a great idea-a closing of the deck ritual with the autumn leaves. No question about it-that ceremony is now on the calendar. Thanks for the great idea.

The humidity here was 82˚ and we had a sprinkle of rain on and off for an hot, but the night was lovely if you were sitting down doing nothing. There was a nice breeze on the deck. We just brought in all the equipment, glasses and whatever else was outside, and I was glad to change into a dry shirt.

      Good Yul-I like that!!

  5. Jay Bird Says:

Kat, your music choices today were… er…um… “eclectic”? You left off “Papa-oom-mow-mow” by the Rivingtons!! Viva diversity!

I lived three summers on a South Jersey Shore beach, and it was sooooo crowded in season! One positive (other than bikini-clad Philly girls) was that there were several really good “seasonal” restaurants, only open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Amazing ultra-fresh seafood!!

PS – the local stations here in Albany don’t give relative humidity any more. It’s all “dew point”. We do our own calculations??

    • katry Says:

      Jaym
I went for the more obscure today and soured my files for them. Half of them I hadn’t ever heard before this.

We have several of those, but the season actually extends to Columbus Day as the fall is so lovely here. Some of the outdoor restaurants closed but the rest manage to stay open.

I get the relative humidity from my local paper. Today was deadly.

I’ve never heard of Westworld but found it on the net, it seems good. Must see if I can fuind it here somewhere. We’re having a thunder storm here right now, most lightning seems to hit either the bog or the mountain, a good thing since it hits everywhere all the time 🙂

I picked up my new mobile phone today and it works, can’t say much more because the simcard I got was for a new phone number I got for a reason neither I nor the telephone company can guess and the old card doesn’t fit in the new phone 🙂 I’ll use the old one until the new card comes and perhaps actually learn how the new phone works before I strt using it 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

    • katry Says:

      Christer,
I really think you’d like this movie. The crowd certainly did.

I do love thunder storms, especially summer storms. They seem to come and go with such fury and then leave a drier, lovelier world behind.

Good luck with your new phone!

      Have a great Sunday!!
