But inside, I’m going, ‘Oh my God, is my zipper up? Do I have a booger in my nose?’ That’s my inner monologue.

What a surprise the morning brought: a cloudy, damp, chilly day. (You know of course that was tongue in cheek!)

I was up early to meet friends for breakfast and did one other errand then came home because my back had started to give me trouble. I still have two more errands on my list so I’ll go out this afternoon. This has been a busy week, the busiest in a long while, and I’m even going to the movies tomorrow to see The Grand Budapest Hotel. On Sunday I will rest. I will out sloth the sloths.

My favorite pie of all is lemon meringue. My mother always made it at Thanksgiving, an odd choice among the pumpkin and squash pies, but a popular choice in my family. My second favorite is blueberry. I never mix ice cream and pie or even ice cream and cake. I find the mixture off-putting.

I learned to tie my shoes when I was young. My first ties were loose but I got better and the ties got tighter. My method was simple and I think is the most common: make a loop with one end, wrap the other end around and pull a loop through the “hole” in the middle. I thought everyone tied their shoes in the same way then a friend did the double loop. She made a loop on each end then tied a knot with them. I was surprised. I tried it a few times but went back to the standard way my mother had taught me.

Buttons were easy. Each one had its own buttonhole though sometimes I’d miss a button and put the next button in the wrong hole. I’d end up with an uneven jacket. My solution was to start buttoning from the bottom.

Zippers were the most difficult of all. Two sides had to be connected exactly the right way, and that was no easy task. My little fingers didn’t work well and one side would zip while the other didn’t because I had missed the connection. Sometimes cloth got caught in the zipper, and that was the worst. I used to zip my jacket before I put it on so I could see what I was doing then I’d slip the jacket over my head and zip it the rest of the way. I don’t know how old I was before I could zip while wearing the jacket. I remember it took a while.

I have only one pair of shoes with laces, sneakers actually. My winter coat, which I seldom wear, has a zipper. My shirts have buttons, but I don’t button them every time. I leave the shirts buttoned up and just slip them over my head. That’s the lazy woman’s way.

The Grand Budapest Hotel was filmed in Eastern Germany. I’ve heard some positive reviews and the description sounds interesting but I haven’t seen it yet. Have fun. I hope the cinema chairs are comfortable enough for your ailing back.

      Birgit,
The theater has quite comfy seats which you can set back so I am hoping that will do.

The movie has had mostly great reviews, and I am a fan of Wes Anderson, the director.

Yes zippers were always a bit tricky and sometimes a bit of skin was caught in it and the pain was awful when trying to back the zipper again 🙂
I tie my shoes the same way You do, the other way was just too complicated and failiur was a too often result when trying. Buttons were never a big problem even tough I still sometimes put the button in the wrong hole 🙂

It rained for exactly two hours today and that was when I and the two small dogs walked a pilgrimage road while waiting for my car to get a new thermostat. As soon as we came back to the garage the rain stopped 🙂 After that the sun showed and is still hanging around making the day rather pleasant.

I’m going to work tomorrow. That was never a plan of mine but it turns out they failed painting some thing when I wasn’t around today and these things must be shipped on Monday. Can’t say I like it but I can take it in hours and take abnother day off instead 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

      Christer,
Buttoning was the easiest to learn then came tying while zippers were way, way difficult.

Mother Nature wasn’t happy about you for some reason. That you got rained on is proof of her temper tantrum.

The sun is out, and it is really quite warm. I was out in the yard fixing the lights around the trees. One set needed to be replaced while the other had gotten unplugged. I also picked up some trash Gracie had stolen from the trash inside and sneaked outside. It was nice being out.

That’s a great idea to take it in hours so you can have a day off.

      Have a wonderful evening!

Learning to tie my shoe laces, buttoning and starting a zipper were all learning experiences as a kid. When my dad was ax kid, in the 1920s his aunt took him to a clothing store to buy a pair of pants. The clerk showed her a pair with a zipper fly. Until then all pants had button flies. She told the clerk that she didn’t want a zipper fly because her son had a zipper jacket and always got his tie caught in the zipper 🙂

      Bob,
They were learning experiences for us all. I can still remember my mother teaching me to the my shoes. Buttons were easy.

That’s a great story. Your aunt saved your dad from a world of pain!
