“Surely as cometh the Winter, I know There are Spring violets under the snow.”

Last night I went to bed around one in the morning. It was raining enough that Gracie went under the deck to go to the bathroom. That’s her new strategy, and I applaud her ingenuity. When I woke up at 10 this morning, it was snowing and it still is. The snow is big and wet. The tree branches are covered, but the busy roads are not. I had to go to the dump, and I needed a few groceries so Gracie and I braved the elements. More people were out than I expected, but the dump was pretty quiet. The best part of the trash run was I didn’t have to leave my car. The high school basketball team is doing service at the dump and emptying trunks. They’re also throwing snowballs at each other from one side of the bins to the other. They are still at the enjoying snow stage of life.

When I got to my street, it had a layer of slush. Luckily, the temperature is above freezing now, and I hope it stays that way so the slush never turns to ice.

Today is a hot chocolate day, a mint hot chocolate day. It’s warm slippers, flannel pants and a sweatshirt day. It’s watch really bad science fiction on the TV from the couch with Gracie at my feet day. I know I’ll keep checking the snow accumulation as I’ve been doing that since I was a little kid. I press my face against the window and watch the flakes. Today it is a gentle snow which falls quietly, unaccompanied by wind. The snow is lovely today.

I went to bed much around the same time last night 🙂 But no rain here at that time. Now a snow fall has started and it will continue all night they say. We’ll get up to two inches they say.

But the day has been rather nice despite a cold and persistent wind. We went out on the bog because the ice is very thisk so I didn’t have to think about deep holes, I could walk everywhere.

I wish I could see bad Scifi movies but nothing like that today. But the swedish rounds of the Eurovision song contest has started and that might even be more bad and fun to be honest 🙂 My sister and I are texting each other all night telling what we think about the contestants and songs and we’re usually not nice 🙂 🙂

Cocoa with honey will be made just before the contest starts 🙂

    Have a great day!
    Christer.

        Bubba,
That was so wonderful. I think my favorite scenes were the night skies filled with stars. They were magnificent.

      Christer,
The snow gave way to rain again and now nothing. The place is a wet, soggy mess. There is now an advisory about the cold causing the roads to freeze and the danger of black ice. It is yet to go below freezing but it will.

After I went out this morning, I didn’t do a whole lot but watch TV. Now I’m catching up on Fringe which I had recorded the last three weeks.

I’ve never thought of cocoa and honey

It stopped to snow here shortly after I wrote here 🙂 So I can’t say I can see any new snow on the ground 🙂 But it’s already 31F here now in the morning so perhaps we’ll get it rather warm today 🙂

Take a picture of me, ’cause I’m probably the only one : I prefer winter than summer.

    • Kat Says:

      Mario,
You are right-as far as I can see, you are the only one. Why do you prefer summer?

      • Mario Bergeron Says:

Winter is more quiet. The darkness is more longer. For someone living by night, it’s very important. I like cold. In fact, when it starts snowing, I go outside, because it’s beautiful and I like the sensation. I never feel bad during winter.
On the other hand : summer is noisy : cars with loud music, little white dogs barking all the time, neighbours also barking ! When it’s getting too hot, I have insomnia. I feel bad many times, during summer. The only thing I like about summer is baseball, but only 8 o’clock games !

We had thunderstorms that woke me at 1am. Ann slept through. I swear she must be a deep sleeper. I was up until 3am but made the mistake of brewing some coffee. So I’m shot for the day. Been napping on and off. Thankfully it turned out to be a day of rest anyway.

      Z&Me,
After my two errands, mine was also a day of leisure. I took a nap and Fern and Gracie joined me. I caught up on some TV programs I had DVR’ed, and that was the extent of my day.

      No plans tomorrow either.

This has been a lazy day around our house because winter has returned to North Texas with clear skies but cold temperatures with a high of only 39 degrees. This morning was a good one to stay cuddled up in bed to stay warm. Winter has not finished with us here in North America, maybe the ground hog was right and we still have six more weeks of winter.

Our two remaining dogs have started to use our patio as their toilet instead of the grass in the backyard. I don’t blame them since I wouldn’t give up my indoor plumbing for any high tech device. Sometimes Lady, the oldest, won’t even venture a foot past the back door to flood the concrete. Cowboy, our Dachshund provides warmth to our feet under the covers at the foot of the bed on both cold and warm nights. He never waters the concrete in front of the door.

We spent part of the day watching a DVD of the new version of ‘Arthur’. Although a fun flick the original version with Dudley Moore, Sir John Gielgud and Liza Minnelli is hard to top. My wife is not a fan of science fiction so I hardly get to see any of the oldies, but goodies. A couple of weeks ago I found ‘The Creature From The Black Lagoon’ on late night TV. I had forgotten how silly the rubber suit looked on the actor playing the creature. The 1954 version of War of the Worlds gave me nightmares as a kid for years and I refuse to watch it or any of the remakes. Why would I take a chance on awaking old nightmares?

    • Kat Says:

      Bob,
I could steal your first paragraph as it perfectly describes today around here except I’d have to add rain then snow then rain again.

Gracie has just started going under the deck when it is raining. The rest of the time she goes in the backyard including this afternoon when the rain had stopped. I don’t blame her for under the deck. Boxers have little hair, and she hates getting soaked.

I think you’d like the old War of the World. It’s pretty good for being so old, and I doubt you’d have nightmares. When you watch the really old ones, you need to suspend disbelief. They didn’t have all the CG effects we’re used to now.

There may be spring violets, but they remain yet unsprung.
