I went to see Tom Russell play at Cecil Sharp House – which is sort of the spiritual home of folk music in England – on Sunday and he was inspired by the venue to have a crack at this. Very good it was too. As he said himself, they don’t write them like this anymore.
Thought you might like to know that this song was written about Salford in the North West of England. I used to work in Salford so this song always sends me back there.

Chris,
He wrote the best songs. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is an all time favorite of mine.
This is a great song!

John,
I had no idea. My background knowledge for this song is scant; I knew only who wrote it.
The wonder of music is what memories flood back when we hear a particular song.
